My sister and family went through Hurricane Andrew in south Louisiana. They had and still do live in a subdivision of about twenty families who are very close knit. All of the folks have arms in the homes, except this one couple. The wife had convinced her husband that any gun in the house was unsafe when they had children. So, he got rid of them all.

After Andrew hit and all areas were dark and unprotected, the looters started cruising. The men in the neighborhood got together and set up a schedule of armed watch 24/7. While they were doing this, the unarmed husband came running in saying "my wife said I could borrow one of your guns to help out and she is afraid".

Well, of course, they did include him, but he liked to have never lived it down.

Unarmed folks always run to armed ones when they need protection.

Amazing how "scalable" that principle is.
Works from individuals all the way up to multiple nations.
