John O'Neill To Be On Hardball Tonight
Hardball | 8/12/04 | Chris Matthews

Posted on 08/12/2004 4:04:32 PM PDT by pookie18

Since O'Neill will be the guest, I'm sure it will be "hardball". However, after what he encountered on Crossfire with Carvile (sic) & Leapin' Lanny Davis, this'll probably feel like a walk in the park...

Okay my letter has been sent!

Chris Matthews,I watched your show tonight, because I wanted to see a debate between John O'Neill and Mr.Hurley.I thought I might be able to gain some insight into the controversy that has been going on with the book Unfit for Command. What I witnessed would not even pass for journalism of any sort. You left your news skills at the door and became a partisian hack for Senator Kerry.Mr O'Neill was right, you didn't let him speak. When he would try to tell you something you cut him off before I could even figure out what he was trying to say.Mr.Hurley just sat there and nodded when you attacked Mr.O'Neill, and a few times he did get in the words liars ,dishonest, and I think I heard John McCains name mentioned. Why did you even have these two men on?You could have just sat there with yourself and attacked Mr.O'Neill,President Bush and Republicans.A good journalist will let the people he is interviewing speak so as to assertain the truth. You definately didn't do that.I don't want to know what you think, your thoughts are not important even if you think they are.I will be buying Mr.O'Neills book,he earned the right to speak and I will not let the likes of you keep me from hearing what he has to say.

And in a similar vein, the higher point is that rather than a officer showing leadership in the face of the enemy, his comrades in arms saw a man that did not show leadership. They judged him dangerous to the mission and to their own safety. Writ large I think that is what we all see as well. We face an enemy and we can't afford to have less than the most effective of leaders.

I believe O'Neill is a lawyer, so he is analytical and used to being under fire in court. He is trained to marshall his facts and sift and compute facts as they come up. He IS good. I am reading this thread because I cn't stand to watch CMat or JCarvile or whiney Lamby Davis.

Yeah...the idea that Kerry did more than "anyone" in this country is an absolute joke. In fact, if Kerry had his way, this country would be in great peril. Not just from his anti-war efforts, but his unilateral views on nuclear disarmament, his treasonous meetings with communists (Ortega) as he tried to obstruct Reagan's intervention in Latin America...to his 20-year Congressional record of weakening America's defenses.

Hell, this is a guy who said that Communism and the USSR was not a threat...and has said that the WOT is an exaggeration as he wants to run a more "sensitive" war. The irony in this statement alone is that while Vietnam was a brutal war...the politicians did try to run it in a semi-sensitive manner as many key targets were prohibited from being attacked.

Of all the people who should realize the failures in Vietnam, it is this man...yet he is prescribing a similar policy for failure. On the contrary...Kerry has tried to do more to harm America than anyone.

Don't worry too much. Regardless of who he says he voted for, he supports Republican candidates, exclusively, with his money: Peter Staub Wareing in 1999 ($1,000), Duane Sand in 2004 ($2,000), Rudy Izzard in 1998 ($250), Brent Perry in 1996 ($1,000), The Texas Republican Congressional Committee from 1992 through 1994 ($6,000), George Bush, Sr. in 1992 ($1,000), Clark Kent Irvin from 1992 through 1992 ($2,000), and Hugh Dunham Shine in 1990 ($400). There was not a single Democrat in the bunch.

Shame on Matthews, over at DUH they’re almost orgasmic about the show.

Major Props To Chris Matthews....

No DNC operative could have done a better job...

I have seen alot of great attorneys but Chris Matthews's questioning of John O'Neil was masterful....

He agreed to go on that show because up until this point, the pundits have been pretty much letting these sleazeballs skate by. He probably assumed he'd get the kid gloves treatment again.

I Have Criticized Tweety In The Past but he let it all hang out tonight...

He upsets me all the time but it was important that he expose O'Neil tonight and he did so in a very skillful manner. I'm hitting him with an email saying thanks.

I'm in awe of Matthews right now. I have rarely heard such a fabulous and fair confrontation of Repuke lies, by a mainstream media pundit, in my lifetime. I think he should have given the Kerry guy some time, but he was on a roll, and clearly could not stop himself.

He Did A Much Better Job Than Carville.....

tweety earned his pay as a journalist tonight. he ate oneill's lunch

As much as I dislike the bastard. He did a great job!

Whatever He Did To Us In The Past And Will Do To Us In The Future the job he did for us tonight was huge...

That O'Neil Clown Was Lulled Into A False Sense Of Security cuz Matthews had the topic on a couple of days ago and was low key......

Great Job Matthews! He has to be on our side now.

No--I think they're being paid off. At the very least, they are enjoying their fifteen minutes of fame.

This is good, very good. They are reduced to shouting.

The genetic Democrats are lulled into thinking that his is good. That is good too.

Give them rope, lots of rope. Let them demonstrate the type of people who want to run our country.

Will the first DNC member with a shred of decency please stand up?

commandant of the marine corp presented a purple heart to a young marine

Say Marine, have you forgotten respect for your title, as well as your spelling skills?

It's a title, Marine, with a CAPITAL M, and Marine Corps with a silent 's'. Get it squared away and don't further embarrass yourself or our Corps!

The email link appears earlier in this thread. I was looking for it myself but could not find one. After I saw the posted link here I sent him the email equivalent of a Republican Guard proctology exam.
But at least I did find this great article posted on MSNBC under the "Hardball" header (I bet it's killing Matthews to see it there, too!):
"Is John Kerry fit for command?
John O'Neill on the truth behind Kerry's three Purple Hearts"

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5684108/

Kudos to Mr. O'Neill! It was worth watching that painful yellow journalism slop just to see his composure under fire. In fact it was worth about $50. Off to the Swiftee site.....

Regardless of your lack of spelling skills, I will take this opportunity to publicly thank you for your service in Iraq and for our country.

Good job, and Welcome Home!

Look me up if you come to Jacksonville, Florida and I will treat you to the best steak dinner you ever had, courtesy of my wife's home cookin'!

It's certainly worth pondering why O'Neill is a Democrat but a few things can't be denied:

He obviously doesn't have a trace of political ambition as he would would have been perfectly positioned for placement in high office, even as a Trojan horse, had he said he was a Republican. Based not only on his stand today but that he was fighting these psychopaths tooth-and-nail 33 years ago as well.

Even if he is lying or he just meant that he voted for Gore in a primary---remember Richard Clark's "registered Republican" boast, as all seriously motivated lefties did to try to put their McCain plant on the ticket instead of Bush---it still works against any political future.

If a Republican would falsely claim that he is Democrat so as to gain credibility for his position, we should examine why we have allowed ourselves to accept that because it is similar to feeling the need to fight off charges of being a "Jew lover" if you are against the holocaust or "nigger lover" if you are against slavery.

There is nothing left of the Democratic Party that is defensible and anything less than a full throated stand against it is a halfassed stand for the survival of our country. This sucks because we are supposed to have two parties to choose from that both want to direct us toward a brighter future...we literally have about half of one party ( Republicans ) that wants us to survive and in almost its entirety another party that wants to snuff us out as quickly as possible. Perhaps O'Neill is a glimmer of hope that there are Democrats that have the survival our country in mind. If he was an Edwards supporter in the primaries, it's not difficult to see why "ABK".

Chris always has to have more liberals on than conservatives and is always rude. Why couldn't he just interview O'Neill himself? Last night he had Gail (I love Hillary) Sheeley and some smirky New York Times writer. The three of them made fun of Laura Bush, praised Teresa and acted like some gossipy high school girls. I will never watch him again after that program.

He is a true independent IMO. He votes for Ross Perot, he voted for Gore, he voted against Clinton. He would have supported Edwards but not Kerry. Back in the 70's he was taped saying he'd voted for Hubert Humphrey and his parents were lifelong Democrats (not RATs mind you). He's also supported local politicians (mayors and the like) who've been both Republicans and DemoncRATs.

O'Neill is showing all of these shills for what they are...and doing a bang-up job of it.

There will be many people watching who will see it and feel it...the differences and the contrast are obvious...as are the reasons for them.
