WASHINGTON, Aug. 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Today, Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg (D-N.J.) reacted to Vice President Dick Cheney's comment that Sen. John Kerry "doesn't have deeply held convictions about right and wrong." Sen. Lautenberg issued the following statement:
"John Kerry had enough conviction to sign up for the military during wartime, unlike the Vice President, who had a deep conviction to avoid military service," said Senator Lautenberg. "Senator Kerry is a veteran who understands war, and knows that the key to success is to rally allies to your cause. President Bush's arrogant policies in Iraq have not worked. Vice President Cheney should spend less time attacking Senator Kerry and more time trying to fix the Bush Administration's mess in Iraq."
------
My understanding is that Kerry was going to be drafted, despite having requested a years deferment to go study in Europe, and decided to volunteer for the Navy to minimize combat exposure. Yes he served, but he apparently did not do so as eagerly as Lautenberg would have you believe.
Lautenberg shouldn't use Kerry's Vietnam service anymore. It's just too embarassing. Bet they wish he had a senatoral record they could run on now.
Afraid to run on his record, ping!
Yes, if only we had allies!

I guess Senator Lautenberg hasn't noticed that there are credible assertions about Kerry's military service that call Kerry's credibility into question.
Senator Lautenberg has managed to demonstrate why those assertions are a valid contribution to the debate of Kerry's fitness for office and deserve to be aired and explored and answered, contrary to the voices in his party that say such questioning of Kerry is off-topic (absurd) and irrelevant.
Ain't that the truth. HEY FRANK, CAN YOU NAME US ONE SIGNIFICANT PIECE OF LEGISLATION YOUR COLLEAGUE HAS SPONSORED IN HIS 19 YEARS AS U.S SENATOR??
Has anyone check Lousenberg's pulse? Is he still breathing in his Junior Senator office in the bowels of the Senate? His protege is aobut to hold an interesting news conference, Jim McGreedy!
"Senator Kerry is a veteran who understands war, and knows that the key to success is to rally allies... YEAH, LIKE THE NORTH VIETNAMESE! WHAT AN ALPHA HOTEL!
And I notice the word of the day from the Kerry Kamp is "arrogant".
LOL!
Actually, all I want to say is, I have more time in the chow line waiting to get into the mess hall than Kerry had in Vietnam.
And now that you mention it, what about Kerry's answer to Cheney in the form of Johnny Edwards?
Where is he?!
chortle/smirk
BAHAAHAAAAAAA!!
::thump::
::roll::
"Mee-OOWWW-wwrrr!"
"Sorry, Kitty.."
Somebody tell Lautenberg that the NJ Dems are trying to get a hold of him....seems they need a replacement for a certain governor who just got flushed today.
I thought that Alan Colmes was the Crypt Keeper...
Isn't that the name of the show? "Hannity & Crypt Keeper"?

I don't think there is one Crypt Keeper, kinda like how at Christmas time there isn't one Santa. The Crypt-Keeping Americans are a federally-protected minority, and we will get in trouble if we keep mocking their Crypt-Keeper-ness. :)
Mr Kerry, how will you address critical issues? "I volunteered for Viet Nam, dammit, how dare you question me."
Isn't it incredible that the Kerry camp's answer to EVERY question revolves around Viet Nam?

What's shocking to us in Massachusetts is that Kerry has become a Born Again Vietnam Vet. He rarely brought up this topic when running for senator--on the contrary, he brought up his anti-war activities if anything.
I love how the media squawk about the attacks on his record. Well, guys, if he ever talked about anything ELSE we could discuss that.
I also love that this story won't go away, and the media are running out of "But who is funding this?" stories.
