It is so sad to see how many people fall for the media hype and propaganda of a guy who has no record to run on other than he was hand picked by Bill Clinton and Terry McAwful. Too many sheeple even in the GOP. Do yourself a favor and start thinking for yourself.

Just going up a name called "Obama" has got to be a disaster. No way.
Illinois is still in America's heartland.
And "Alan Keyes" is an American name!

"Lincoln lost one election. And in fact, he won the popular vote in that election, but the state legislature chose Douglas."
Could you please explain how Lincoln "won the popular vote" for the Senate a full 56 years before the first time the people ever voted in a U.S. Senate election?
Before the 17th Amendment was ratified in 1913, Senators were elected by the state legislatures. The Lincoln-Douglas debates and their "Senate race" were merely part of the Illinois state legislative elections of 1858, since the Republican candidates would vote for Lincoln if elected to the Legislature while the Democrat candidates would vote for Douglas. The people of Illinois elected Democrat majorities to both houses of the Illinois Legislature, and the Legislature elected Douglas to the U.S. Senate.

Has Keyes any ties to Illinois?Since no one else wants to give you the honest answer, I will.
No.

You missed my point. Ryan left because of a SCANDAL. If Obama has one, you need an opponent there running against him.

Somehow I envision a Saturday Nite Live skit of Alan running for Congress from a Chicago homeless shelter...

Whoa! I'm shocked that a great, upstanding, pro-life conservative like you would criticize Alan Keyes.
Not.

I almost expected someone during the convention to say, "Obama...he just talks so well." No, the word is "ARTICULATE". This is what they said of Condi Rice after her Commission testimony. the classic liberal racist comment.

Sorry.......he lost three times
1843 - Lincoln is unsuccessful in try for the Whig nomination for U.S. Congress
1855 - Does not get chosen by the Illinois legislature to be U.S. Senator.
1859 - Illinois legislature chooses Douglas for the U.S. Senate over Lincoln by a vote of 54 to 46.

I am not arguing against ANYTHING OR ANYBODY.
I am defending Dick Cheney, who was needlessly and inaccurately smeared by the Keyes people to justify Keyes going back on his own statement!

I say that Keyes was not selected to win. He was selected to dim Obama's lamp as much as is practical. Right now, people think Obama is the Second Coming, and that needs to be countered somehow, even if he wins anyway. I agree with you 110%! I don't like carpetbagging be it Hillary or Keyes. I appreciate that the party was put in a difficutl position and is playing more of a chess game than trying to win / retain this Senate seat. Keyes only has to be living in Illinois by election day to be technically qualified. I do hope he gets more than token support from the Illinois GOP. This would be an impossible win, but it's the game that's more important here. If by some miracle Keyes were to be the Senator from Illinois... well, wouldn't that be a hoot! I might have to donate even though I'm opposed to interfering in such things as an "out of state interest." I donated to his 2000 campaign and I'd like to at least see him get enough money to be heard.

But don't try to drag Dick Cheney into it. Specious? I'm just pointing out your own hypocricy. As I said, Cheney is a damn fine VP. I wouldn't mind him as President, either. There is nothing wrong with what he did.
Now, look at the origin of the word "carpetbagger," and see if Keyes qualifies under these conditions.
With Hillary, I think my initial position at the time was that she shouldn't do it under those circumstances--because it was obviously political opportunism and blind ambition, but that she could do it, and if New York elected her, they should be punished by having Hillary as a Senator for six years. In other words, they would deserve her.
Keyes was drafted in a very strange circumstance to run against a socialist who the media is practically begging to run for President. You're right that it's not the EXACT SAME as Cheney, but it's similar. Nor is it the same thing as Hillary, but close. Keyes will meet the Constitutional requirements. I presume your objection is with Keyes, not the Constitution. As for me, I'm comfortable enough, knowing the situation in Illinois and being fairly confident that I understand the character of Keyes, that he is doing the right and honorable thing, and not without having thoroughly examined and addressed any moral problems that could arise from it.
