...PLEASE run, Alan, PLEASE!...Good on you, Tame. Put it straight on the naysayers' middle stump, as we say here in Australia.
No wonder it's so difficult to organise a cohesive effort when you have a bunch of little rain clouds trailing around after positive posters like yourself, whining and complaining and looking for the downside in everything. I note that when you right-click on their posting history you find it's their perennial MO. Don't let 'em get you down, cheers, Byron

"As much as I respect and like Dr. Keyes, I don't think this will work."
I agree. I do respect Alan Keyes, but his positions are solidly based in his beliefs. From what I saw of Obama, he is a say anything kind of guy if it will get him elected. Keyes won't back off where he comes from and he will make a great debater, but in Illinois he won't get much of a listen I fear.

Well, considering he isn't even a resident of the state, I am sure that won't be an issue with the voters. Horrible decision.
Yes, I know state law says he only needs to be a resident as of election day, but a candidate only gets a certain number of elections to be considered credible. Keyes has run for senator from Maryland, presidential candidate and now senator from Illinois while being a Maryland resident.
Keyes needs to run for a state house or state senate seat first and then try for higher office.
I wish him well, but at most he will receive 30% of the vote. Think about it, how many candidates have you voted for that are not residents from the jurisdiction they are running for?

Awesome! Dr. Keyes will be an outstanding standard-bearer for the GOP in Illinois. And he will confront Obama on the issues and unmask him as the liberal extremist he is.

That is a total misrepresentation. It is not.
Some of us remember it, distinctly.
I have to laugh, EV. You Keysters are twisting yourself in knots trying to say that what Keyes said in 2000 has no application in 2004.
I wonder how he feels, knowing he's the fifth choice for the Illinois GOP?

I said it the other day and I'll repeat it. I don't like carpetbaggers and will not donate to Alan this time. Fine. There are plenty of other places that your funds are needed.
But don't join with the defeatists and the Keyes-haters to pull down the Republican nominee.

To blunt the carpetbagger charge, Keyes should move here to Hillary's hometown of Park Ridge. Maybe her old house on Washington Street is for sale!

I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but we were all against America's "favorite carpetbagger" up in New York not that long ago... Yes, Hillary IS a carpetbagger. She wanted elected office so badly, she landed her broomstick where she thought she could win.
This situation in Illinois is different. Keyes didn't look for this. The Illinois GOP came to HIM. Desperate times, and all of that.

He will lose, and lose badly, and this will be the end of him, politically. He will be beaten to a pulp but unfortunately for the body politic he will keep siphoning off enough cash to bask in Jamaica all winter.

How else will he pay for his Armani suits and travel first class. The positive news for the Republicans in Illinois is that it can only get better after he concedes.
Riiiiight.
To: Bogey78O
That could not be further from the truth. Alan will sweep a huge number of votes in the southern part of the state. And the Catholics in Cook County will come to him in droves.
Done deal guys. There's a real conservative coming to the Senate from Illinois.
To: unspun
And since we both know that the state of the State is so terribleThe state of the state isn't terrible. The state of the state party is terrible. You would think from this decision that there were no good candidates in Illinois. Not true. There were just no good candidates who were willing to enter the race with ZERO support from the state party and ZERO support from the national party.
To: Phantom Lord
I love Allan Keyes too. He is a great orator and a great debater, but Obama is going to defeat him handily.

Even Keyes has said he doesn't like the idea of parachuting into the state. I say let the voters decide. If he's what they want, and I'd vote for him, they should have him.
Keyes will make mincemeat out of Obama.

And I can find fault with the way Bush speaks, for Pete's sake. BUT I would never do that to bring him down and help the Dark Side. He's the GOP nominee.

Keyes only plays well to himself and fourteen loons in the balcony. He is so self absorbed and pretentious he makes normal folks shudder.
Yeah Keyes is Black, so therefore he must be supported by loons.
Try turning off your TV and try listening to your Radio.
The man makes sense, consistently.

I heard someone on the news (Fox, I think) earlier pointing out already that Keyes had lambasted Hitlery for being a carpetbagger and now is doing that himself.....Brace yourselves.SIGH
