Mary Kay Letourneau Released From Prison
GIG HARBOR, Wash. Mary Kay Letourneau (search), the grade school teacher convicted for having sex with a sixth-grade pupil, was released from prison early Wednesday, and her now 21-year-old former lover plans to challenge a court order that bars her from contacting him, a friend said.
"He's relieved that she's out of prison and currently he can't wait to see her," Noel Soriano said on a morning television news program.
Letourneau, who served 71/2 years in prison, slipped unnoticed past the hordes of reporters and gawkers outside the Washington Corrections Center for Women (search) before dawn.
As a condition of her release, Letourneau, 42, can't contact former pupil Vili Fualaau (search), the father of two of her children.

At my time I had extremely unpleasant teachers...
I've been amazed at the amount of coverage this story has received. For example it was the lead story on this morning's Today Show.
The woman did her time. At this point, who cares if she gets together with her boyfriend?
Well now that he is of legal age and she is still as immature as ever now they can be together.
It is beyond comprehension that this pathetic, immature woman would still want to be with this kid and this kid would even still want to be with her.
The sad component in all of this are those two kids who are the true victims in this whole mess.
One more observation: I was shocked to see that she spent 7 years in prison. Somehow I have a feeling that 100 years ago, this crime would never even have been prosecuted. But some kind of PC notion insists that a boy in this situation is as harmed as a girl the same age would be. If he does get back together with her, it would kind of undermine that argument.
She's a pedophile. Nobody cares if she sees another adult, but she should be monitored around children, even her own.
You're right.
So female-on-male pedophilia would be legal in your world?
I agree. This kid wasn't harmed by that dingbat. Hell, he probably has streets named after him in Guam.
Does anyone REALLY care about this?? or her?? I bet it happens more than we think. She just got caught, that's all.
Don't bet on it.
He's got two kids by her and didn't finish high school.
Not at all. Victims of childhood incest often continue to identify with their abusing parent. Just because a victim of childhood sexual abuse is emotionally attached to the abuser does not mean that the abuse wasn't harmful.
Make that six kids. Don't forget she tore apart her 1st family by all this. From various articles I've read, they want nothing to do with her (and rightly so).
Millions of horny teenage males lobby their school districts to hire her...news at 11.
I do.
I have done engineering design work at WCCW where she is being released from and just finished some work at the State's new sexual preditor commitment facility (Special Commitment Center). We have an office pool going on how many weeks it will be before she is transfered to the new SCC on McNeil Island, so I bet too and that is why I am interested.
Otherwise, she is just a tragic piece of human trash, that would have been banished to the wilderness in the past.
No. But seven years seems excessive.
Lock up yer sons.
Ms. LeTourneau's sexual liaisons were "cutting edge," as they involved sex with a minor. There is some irony to this situation, given her father's staunch, though hypocritical, social conservatism. Cases like hers may be used by the Left, to topple existing laws forbidding sex with minors. Rest assured that pornographers and homosexuals will use their influence and money to bring about the abolition of such statutes.
Even many liberals oppose pederasty. Laws abolishing the criminal sanctions against this activity would not be approved, even by the legislatures of Massachusetts and California. However, given another two or three Ruth Bader Ginsbergs to the Supreme Court and a hundred or so liberals to lower Federal courts and a widespread campaign by the liberal media casting a "new light" on this perversion, it could occur. Perhaps Ms. LeTourneau could pose as a martyr for this cause.
For those who say that "it can't happen here," let me remind you of recent history. Who would have thought in 1990 that homosexual marriage would make the progress it has? In 1980, few would have believed the "F-bomb" and nudity would be commonplace on television. Would someone who lived in the relatively wholesome atmosphere of the 1940s or 1950s believe that the most lurid pornography would be a mouse-click away and that "adult" book stores would be plentiful on off-ramps of Interstates, even in the Bible Belt?
Be afraid, be very afraid. But stand up for decency and morality as well.
