FYI
FBI and DHS issued an alert for potential vehicle-borne attacks - new thread just posted. Interesting they are saying the national thread level is 'yellow elevated' and for those financial areas it's 'orange high" hmmm...
Done.
Quite a bit like that...
THX MUCH.
YOUR USUAL IMPRESSIVE COMPILATION AND ANALYSIS, in my view.
I suppose I've read "The Stand" too many times. :)

DHS/FBI ALERT

DETAILS
There is no standard type of vehicle associated with VBIEDs. Terrorists appear to select vehicles based on an assessment of vehicles common to and available in a region, vehicles possessing routine access to the target area or the security posture of the intended target. Vehicles of any type or size can be utilized in vehicle bombings, although the size of the explosive charge may, to some degree, dictate the size of the vehicle required. In the 1993 World Trade Center attack, approximately 1,200 pounds of improvised explosives were placed in a rental van which had been reported stolen by one of the conspirators. Other large vehiclessuch as limousinesshould also receive consideration as potential VBIEDs, since limousines have larger storage capacity than regular passenger vehicles. In addition, limousines often convey an impression of authority or prestige, which may facilitate their access to specific locations in a building or facility denied to the general public.
Analysis of terrorist preparations for past attacks overseas and in the United States suggests that preoperational indicators may be present in the days or weeks prior to an attack. The following indicators may point to possible planning to use rental vehicles in a terrorist attack. Alone, each indicator can result from legitimate commercial activity or criminal activity not related to terrorism; however, multiple indicators can suggest a terrorist threat.
Customers who attempt to give vague or unverifiable references or employment information on rental agreements, who insist on paying in cash and/or who seem overly concerned about privacy.
Attempts to expedite collection of deposits made on rental vehicles reported as "stolen."
Suspicious inquiries concerning whether vehicles can be modified to handle heavier loads, create additional storage areas or increase fuel capacity or vehicle speed.
Suspicious inquiries concerning the use of limousines by private drivers or a limousines exact length, height or interior volume.
Reports of rental vehicles parked for prolonged periods of time near sensitive facilities such as government, military, utility or other high profile sites.
Suspicious attempts to gain employment at vehicle dealerships and/or rental agencies.
Customers displaying burns or chemical exposure symptoms who provide vague or illogical explanations as to the circumstances surrounding the injuries.
Returned rental vehicles with altered company logos, Department of Transportation numbers, or structural or appearance modifications.
This can't be real, or there'd be more signs of intelligent life.
Remember, you can't keep using the Democrat Convention as your example.....
Just a single change to the front page.
Back for the Attack
I was joking - the joke was that we only have one US Embassy in each country, and since they want to kill Americans, they CAN'T do multiple coordinated attacks against one poorly-defended US Embassy in one country because there is only ONE Embassy in each country. (I wasn't talking about the simultaneous attacks against different Embassys in different countries - which I thought was pretty amazing coordination, given entirely different security situations.) I was trying to imply that in foreign countries, their options for "American" targets are limited, whereas in America, their targets, any target, is American.
Also, see Freepmail.
But anyway, I understand your point about complexity going up and risks going up the more attacks they try to coordinate at once.
OK. Found the thread.
I'm responding to this post because of the FBI's Internet Tip Line.
I won't stay long as in a few minutes I'll be going food shopping at my local A&P. What this has got to do with the ITL, you ask? Well, a lot or maybe nothing. It's a long story that begun the summer of 2001 - a mere 2 months prior to 9-11. I'll try to be as brief as I possibly can. Here it goes...
In the summer of 2001 I met at the local A&P a Moroccan, whom I spoke to on many occassions. Basically all this guy spoke of was of Islam taking over America, the burning of American churchs, Islamic Chechen/Russian heros (terrorists?), the Palestinian/Israeli issue, etc. It was very clear to me at that time that this guy was/is an anti-American anti-Christian. I have no doubt in my mind that this guy is anti-American, none. What I'm not sure of is whether he's involved with Islamists. I have no proof of that. Remember this happened 2-3 months before 9-11.
A month or two after 9-11 this guy no longer worked at the A&P.
A couple of months ago he returned to work at the same job, I asked him where he had been. He told me he had been on disability. Now when I try to engage him to talk about the same issues we talked about 2 1/2 years ago, including 9-11, the Iraq war and terrorism in general he goes mum and gets upsets.
I'm making this whole encounter as brief as possible for lack of time. Two other pieces of info: 1)told me he's sending his son to Bari (Italy) as, in his words, "It's dangerous for him to be here in America." This man is in his late 40's. I've never asked him about his son's age. 2)He now wears a wrist camera. He showed it to me and saw myself in the tiny screen. Why is he wearing a wrist camera?
Lately (last 2-3 day trips to the store) I haven't seen him. I'll log off now and go to the store, but at this time he won't be there as he has a day shift.
If I meet him again, I'll try to engage him to talk and will report here.
In the meantime, I'm not sure whether to report him or not. I did call the police already in late 2001 for an abandoned knapsack with a note attached to it in the lobby of my building. The police came and thanked me. They said I did the right thing. The building super told me the knapsack contained baby's clothing. The note was addressed to a person not living in the building. The super did not know the person on the note, neither did I. It was only after asking the super about the knapsack and whether she knew the name of the person on it that prompted me to call the police.
My dilemma now whether I should inform the FBI, or wait, speak to the guy a few more times - if I ever see him again- and decide wether the info I gather, if any, is worthy of a call.
See you all later tonight and thanks for all the info.
I missed a bunch of #15 when I traveled to San Diego last weekend. I still have to find time for posts 3000->end.
They already searched the Mosque, this morning. They broke windows to get in and everything.
Yeah, that's a bad example. Anti-intelligence is not the ame thing as no intelligence.
Interesting reading about the flu virus hitting around the US.
My sister in law and I both came down with upper respiratory infections last Wednesday afternoon. We were both up in LA the previous weekend for my son's wedding. She went home to Illinois, I came back to San Diego. Upper respiratory infection turned into, what I refer to as the old fashioned flu, by Saturday morning.
The digestive track problems left us both on Monday but both of us still have swollen glands and deep coughs. My husband started coming down with it on Tuesday and feels horrible today.
We get summer colds occasionally but nothing like this. This is more like the flu virus that was hitting back in the spring.
You all stay healthy now!!
Awesome summary!
Thanks
I guess so. Remember Daleel's post that there would be a period of silence before the 'Big One'. It has been relatively quiet the last 24-48 hours - As far as the usual Trash Talk posts are concerned.

Police work is better left to the pros - it's too dangerous fo amateurs.
err on the side of physical safety - that is what we pay taxes for.
and then .....
