A domestic centerpiece of the Bush/GOP agenda for a second Bush term is getting rid of the Internal Revenue Service, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
The Speaker of the House will push for replacing the nation's current tax system with a national sales tax or a value added tax, Hill sources tell DRUDGE.
"People ask me if Im really calling for the elimination of the IRS, and I say I think thats a great thing to do for future generations of Americans," Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert explains in his new book, to be released on Wednesday.
"Pushing reform legislation will be difficult. Change of any sort seldom comes easy. But these changes are critical to our economic vitality and our economic security abroad," Hastert declares in SPEAKER: LESSONS FROM FORTY YEARS IN COACHING AND POLITICS.

>>Oh yes it does. The sales tax has the exact same problem. Everyone will try to make all expenses business expenses and not be subject to sales tax.
I disagree. Most states already have a sales tax and know how to implement and enforce it. If the tax is low enough, then it would be more effort than it was worth to try and circumvent the tax.
By the Way Hastert to talk to Hannity about his thoughts on Sales Tax on the Radio in a moment, TUNE IN, to Hannity Radio Talk Show NOW!
Damn, I missed it. What did he say? Is he going to be on the tv show tonight?
The federal sales tax alone will be 30%. No one in history has every successfully implimented a 30% broad sales tax on goods and services. Avoidance will be huge. Studies in Europe suggest anything over 10% causes a significant amount of avoidance.
Avoidance is figured into the 23%/30% rate -- assumes equivalent to income tax avoidance (off the top of my head, I think that's roughly 15-20%).
There ain't no such thing as a tax system of any stripe where some people won't try to game or cheat the system. The fact that some poeple will try is not a good argument against a particular system.
If it is a retail business, you would not be asked.
Who will determine that the day care operator is honestly reporting the correct portion of the personal expenses and the correct portion of the business expenses.
The DayCare operator would not be asked.
I it was brief and I did not get to listen to all of it, but I think he said he was going to be on the show tonight.

As a business owner, I can buy retail stuff used in my business and pay no sales tax.
I like it, I like it!
Not practical, though; few folks could afford to take two, four or six years without earnings. If they had other jobs they could not devote the time required to their congressional duties. I think maybe a combination of term limits and strict accounting of (and recapture of the excess) money raised for campaigns would discourage those who are only there to line their pockets.
Make them go back and live under the laws they pass after their term of service ends.
As far as selling influence, all political donations should (by law) be anonymous. You can't sell if you don't know who is buying!
OOPS! I forgot the bonus! After the IRS goes away, a small number of the IRS staff can become the campaign contribution acceptance and distribution agency!
Most of these congress people are millionaires. They can work senate/house jobs part-time, and work a job in the private sector. It will be a 180 degree turn around. They would have to work in the real world. It would be a service job, and hold distinction, but lose some of that idea that they rule the free world. Any salary they would receive would be compensatory. Our founding fathers did not make a career out of setting up this country, they should not either.
While this would be great if it did happen, radical change such as completely getting rid of the IRS just doesn't happen overnight. Start tearing down the pillars of Liberalism by gutting and doing away with such things as the NEA and NPR/PBS and then start aiming for the IRS. I believe at this point, doing away with the IRS is all but a lofty, yet, worthwhile goal to work toward.
