Hey there, my FRiend...good to see you again!!

"Rove is calculating we're more scared of Kerry than the flood of illegals. It may be true. But there are states where they might end up wishing they'd gone after every vote."

I know it's cynical of me, but I can see a scenario wherein Dubyuh is proposing this to reach out to the Hispanic vote, but he knows the House will NEVER allow it to become law!! I for one will go ballistic if this ever comes outta committee in the Senate, and I know many who realize what bad policy this is and will do the same!! House-members will know they are potentially sacrificing their seat if they accept this "Non-Amnesty" Amnesty program of Dubyuh's!! It's bad, ill-conceived policy and will NEVER become law!!

Bush team keeps conservative agenda in check
By Ralph Z. Hallow
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
Published August 27, 2004

NEW YORK -- President Bush's strategists outmaneuvered conservatives at every turn in Republican platform proceedings here, achieving nearly total success in pushing through the planks favored by the president's
re-election campaign.

"By the time everyone got to New York, the battle was over -- the fix was in," said Richard Lessner, American Conservative Union executive director. "The committee simply rubber-stamped whatever the administration desired."

Conservative activists outside the platform committee got almost none of their language or policy goals into the platform that will be presented to next week's Republican National Convention.

During breaks in platform deliberations Wednesday and yesterday at the Javits Center in Manhattan, officials from the White House and the Bush campaign mingled with the 110 platform committee members, all handpicked by the White House.

Eagle Forum President Phyllis Schlafly, the point person for conservative forces in the platform process, lobbied to strengthen the platform's opposition to stem-cell research and to oppose amnesty for illegal aliens.

White House representatives told Mrs. Schlafly they wouldn't budge on the stem-cell plank. Mrs. Schlafly also failed in her attempt to add language opposing Social Security benefits, driver's licenses, federal student loans and in-state college tuition for illegal aliens. Despite her efforts, the platform endorses Mr. Bush's "guest worker" proposal -- which critics call an amnesty plan for illegals -- while also declaring the GOP opposes amnesty.

One of the few conservative successes was the addition of language supporting federal and local law enforcement working together to secure the nation's borders.

"The process was very controlled, as everyone knows," said Schlafly aide Lori Waters.

"Conservatives were badly outflanked by the Bush operation," Mr. Lessner said.

Many conservative critics privately admit to grudging respect for the discipline and secrecy shown by the Bush campaign team and the Republican National Committee -- now essentially united as Team Bush -- in getting exactly the platform the party establishment wanted.

The discipline began months ago with White House selection of the platform chairman, Sen. Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee, and co-chairmen Gov. Bill Owens of Colorado and Pennsylvania Rep. Melissa A. Hart.

The Bush forces believe that with a moderately worded platform, they will win over more weak John Kerry supporters among Democrats and independents and more undecided voters than they will lose from disgruntled voters among the ranks of Mr. Bush's conservative base.

Some conservatives doubt that the moderately worded platform favored by Team Bush will do anything to attract independent voters and wobbling Democrats.

"Soft Democrats and moderate voters will never see the platform," Mr. Lessner said. "The only people who will pay attention are his base of grass-roots Republicans and a lot of them will be very unhappy."

But a Los Angeles Times poll of 1,352 registered voters, taken Saturday through Tuesday and released yesterday, suggests Mr. Bush is doing a better job than Mr. Kerry, the Democratic presidential nominee, of consolidating his base.

SHEEEESH...Dubyuh's "non-Amnesty" AmnestyProgram fer ILLEGALS is asinine!! We'll haveta defeat Dubyuh in the House...he's simply WRONG!!

Well, I guess he might. And he only wants the AWB passed so he can sign it because he knows the House will stop that.

Of course, there's always a chance that he really does want the AWB and alien amnesty. Just like he wanted the National Endowment for the Art and Kennedy's No Child Left Behind and the Department of Education and the Pill Bill and through-the-roof deficit spending.

Does it occur to some of you that this isn't some secret conservative code he's sending but that he actually wants the things he says he wants, that he intends to pass them?

Freedom of speech becomes a strange thing when we start to assume that everyone is saying the opposite of what they mean. It's effectively the end of meaningfull discourse.

If this is all true, then there is no reason to listen to anything he says. If he says he is against something, you all agree that he's against it. If he says he's for something that you don't want, you just say that he's really truly secretly sneakily craftily against it and how brilliant it is for him to lie to you and everyone else this way.

I dunno, Slim... Does that scenario really make sense? You tell me. I've misplaced my decoder ring.

Remember how close the 2000 election was?! Some of Dubyuh's supporters will tell you those were the costs of his election, and we needed to pander to those voting blocs who benefited from these ridiculous expenditures by the Federal Leviathan!! I believe differently...I think Dubyuh's Girleyman expenditures are muddling the differences between the GOP and the Socialist DemonRATS...and costing the GOP votes!!

"Does it occur to some of you that this isn't some secret conservative code he's sending but that he actually wants the things he says he wants, that he intends to pass them?"

You mean Dubyuh's a damned Milquetoast Moderate like his ineffectual Daddy?! Say it ain't so, but it just might be!!

Hey George W., I ain't defending the action, I'm just pointing out a possibility. I trusted Ronald Reagan when he said, "The Federal Leviathan ain't the solution, it's the problem" and I still believe it today!! Dubyuh's more like his daddy than he's like Ol' Dutch, but I gotta believe he's learned SOMETHING from his Daddy's utter FAILURE as POTUS!!

Well, you made a good case for him. The only electable alternative to Bush is pretty shabby after all. Still, he has no reason to offer more conservative leadership if voters are willing to let him and the Congress off the hook so easiily. And he only needs us one more time, on election day.

I have to disagree with you. There are miles of difference, even with Bush's moderate "compassionate conservatism". Just a few of the glaring differences are: pro-life, our military and the use of, global position re: UN/ICC/KYOTO etc, school choice, judiciary, tort reform, RKBA, and taxes. My belief is this country is roughly divided into 50%, 25% & 25%. Each of the 25 being decidely conservative or liberal/leftist both socially and financially. The other 50% is comprised of people who are moderate or go either way depending on the issue. The usual split is socially liberal and fiscially conservative which as you know is not entirely compatible. As far as the guest worker program it's a way to get the illegals documented which is the first step in control- since short of building a wall it's extremely difficult to stop the flow.
And what's up with the "girleyman" appellation?

"...there is NO possible way that could possibly happen if Skabby gets elected..."

Very true...however, it AIN'T gonna happen if we let Dubyuh avoid the issue fer another election. Bush Administration spending is outta control and needs to be reined in...the number I've heard is that domestic discretionary spending has grown 24% in three years!! That's 24% MORE BLOAT in a Federal Leviathan which was already bloated from 8 years of Clinton/Gore expenditures!!

We could FReeze domestic discretionary spending fer the next three years and we'd STILL be over-spending come 2006!!

Dubyuh needs to play ball with the Conservatives...MUD
