PARIS - Lance Armstrong rode into history Sunday by winning the Tour de France for a record sixth time, an achievement that confirmed him as one of the greatest sportsmen of all time.

Armstrong's sporting achievements are outstanding but Freepers really need to leave it right there. Just because he's given the French a black eye everyone wants to crown him king. Like many sports heros, he has an outstanding specific talent which does not play out in his personal life.
If it was Clinton or Kerry that left his family to bonk Sheryl Crow you guys would be all over it like a rash. Because it's Lance and he's stuck it the French.........er.....well we'll cut him some slack on that one.
Congratulations to Armstrong for a fine sporting performance. However, outside of cycling he has nothing to say to me.
I doubt USPS is paying Armstrong. But Armstrong gets many commercial endorsements and is the spokesman for Trek Bicycles. He is well off financially.
"To: Hawk44 You're way off base."
Thanks for the insight.
Seems to me that Lance was past his cancer when he met his wife which makes Hawk wrong on that account. See bio

Further....the guy had been touring and racing for a long time before he met and married. She knew what she was getting into.
Irnoically, with the course 'tricked up' by cobblestones, Mountain time trials etc, it only increased Lances desire to dominate.
"Only in France would the leader wear a "yellow" jersey"
Thinking of themeselves as being "artsy", they figure the yellow contrast nicely when they crap their pants?
"Phuck Phrance!!"
Phideaux says woof woof.
Ditto with regard to your France comment. Exactly. ROFLMAO
President Bush predicted that both he and Armstrong would win. He's so far right on the money with the first -- now for the second!
"Is this where I'm supposed to exclaim "My hero"
Hero? Perhaps. Perhaps not.
Depends on how one assess there own skill level and admiration for those who aspire to be so much more.
I think when someone takes on the world and wins not once but six times they've proven themselves and a manner that is to be admired....an inspiration to others.
Schadenfreude works well for the French.
They are really good with their German.
"Like many sports heros, he has an outstanding specific talent which does not play out in his personal life."
How so?
Actually I'd have had far more respect for Clinton if either one had left his family to bonk Sheryl Crow. I never thought Monica was very good looking (although clearly better than Hillary). And of course Clinton didn't even bother to divorce his wife.
So congratulations to Lance for landing Sheryl Crow! Add that to his incredible cycling victories, and he's on top of the world right now.
Without our safeguards we'd be just like them. I strongly suspect that many Europeans are rooting for us secretely -- just as a lot of Iron Curtain citizens did during the Cold War.
It's one reason why I get ticked when I see Euro bashing.
And I suppose you have evidence that he dumped his wife for Crow?
As everybody around here knows, it was an amicable separation, with Kristin eventually tiring of the traveling and living in Europe.
It's amazing. On EVERY Lance Armstrong thread the same stupid lies are brought out and then slapped down, yet they ooze to the surface again and again.
Congratulations to him, to his teammates, and to the sportsmanship of the people of France (who mostly didn't attempt to interfere with him in any way).
Except, perhaps, his wife and three small children that this bicycle-pedaler dumped.
Another boring, dumb, cheating, family-dumping jock. Feel free to admire that all you want.
Doesn't sound like a "dumped" wife to me.
