PARIS - Lance Armstrong rode into history Sunday by winning the Tour de France for a record sixth time, an achievement that confirmed him as one of the greatest sportsmen of all time.

That's at the heart of all this criticism. One wonders whether these folks apply strict ideological purity tests to everyone in their own lives, or if that's a quality best reserved for other people...
That is so true. At the end of the Tour today, the OLN announcers Phil and Paul were speaking about this. Paul said that when he went to visit Lance in his hospital bed in 1996, and saw him lying there bald and with only a 50/50 chance to even live, much less race again, he never could have imagined this day.
And Phil said it brings tears to your eyes to see this, while Paul had trouble keeping from tearing up.
Yes, Lance may not be a perfect man in his personal life (who is?), but he didn't have a father figure to emulate. He hasn't left his children, he is determined to be a part of their lives, unlike what he himself had as a child.
He and his mother were all alone, it was up to her to make a life for him, and she did it. I suspect that no woman he's met will ever measure up to his mother. He has often said she is his hero.
"Gawd, can you hear yourselves?"
Yes he was taunted by many nationalities. However, France is the host country, they haven't exactly been good allies when we asked for help.
Are all French the same, do they all feel the same way or are they targets as a whole because of their heads of state......people THEY elected.
Given the Nationalism of France, their pettiness of their language being corrupted by foreigners, the trashing of McDonalds and Euro Disney because they're what, jealous?
The apparent doublecrossing of Bush and Colin Powell....
Get the picture?
You know nothing but don't let that get in the way of running your mouth.
An audit publicized around the same time by the USPS Office of the Inspector General claimed that the USPS was unable to track or verify revenue associated with sponsorships; lacked goals and objectives for some sponsorships; and did not manage tickets and invitations appropriately. The audit documents said the USPS could not determine return on investment for its sponsorships.
He gets his equipment for free.. Travel? Where is this $$ going?
BTW Lance is a superhuman biker, but a 101% Moron everywhere else in life.
If you're going to bash someone, perhaps you should first familiarize yourself with the facts.
"Another boring, dumb,..."
So you find someone who was raised by a single parent, over came cancer of the testicles, cancer of the brain, cancer of the lungs, founder of a foundation to fight cancer, the obvious athletic accomplishments.
Guess you think Reagan was just another wife/kid dumping hollywood actor and not to be admired either?
What the hell does the sponsorship of the USPS team (which paid a BIG dividend in the last month) have to do with making Lance Armstrong a "101% Moron"? He makes none of those decisions.
That's as stupid as calling up Dale Jarret because UPS didn't deliver your package on time.
And "a 101% Moron everywhere else in life"? Really?
You need to familiarize yourself with the amount of time and money Armstrong puts into cancer research and treatment.
He raised $23 million for cancer victims. He's allowed to walk out on 3 kids.
I apologize.
If Clinton gives a big stash to some needy charity will you kiss his butt too?
Divorce happens. It's a shame, but Armstrong certainly isn't the only one to be divorced. By all accounts he sees his kids as often as possible, and he opted out of the Olympics to spend time with them.
What is your definition of "walking out" on his kids?
Some people always manage to slither under the bar.
They're all over the place. Evidently "preferring the runner up to the winner" isn't a completely French attribute...
What a nation! . . where the most popular sport is a coupla hundred guys peddling around in spandex!
Actually, he met his now ex-wife (and mother of his children) AFTER surviving cancer.
Hey, you gotta give " Afronaut" some credit for originality; blaming mismanagement at the US Post Office on Armstrong.
I haven't heard that one before.
He had a different girlfriend other than the first wife when he was diagnosed and survived most of the way through the cancer, then dumped her.
His family background is multiple short 3-5 year relationships, and he is following that pattern.
I am huge fan of Lance. Viva Lance!
Diva's Husand
you forgot the 'with none'.
And perhaps we should remember even Ronald Reagan was divorced.
How's yer bird?
