Australia and Italy have received warnings through a statement purportedly from militants linked to al Qaeda that demanded those countries withdraw troops from Iraq.

Too much cable news time is being dedicated to the missing jogger. While sad and tragic, there is much happening on the terror front that we need to know about.

I've just returned from a few days away and it seems the course of events has taken a dramatic turn.

From what I've read over the last few days, AQ seems to be ramping up to do something. The OBL tape release, heightened threats to NYC and other documented threats you guys have posted in the last few days on the thread.

Al Arabiya has been pouring over Sheik Bashirs "vision" of American destruction recently. We put that on thread one or two if I remember correctly. I know the enemy likes to describe pending operations cloaked as "religious visions".


Exsoldier and Hipshot have made several excellent observations about the changing nature of this war. I've been a follower of military history and tactics for much of my life, and I see a sea change in events beginning.

Traditionally, war has been fought on economic, political, military, industrial, and propaganda fronts. Non Combatants in both of these wars were actively involved in one or more of the fronts, and sometimes became targets of military action during strategic operations by the other side, but they were not actively targeted by the enemy out of respect for human life.

For examples: World War one is an example of a war won on the political and economic fronts. World War Two was won on all fronts. Civilian casualties occurred in both, but these casualties were not desirable or sought out by top commanders as a method of winning the war. The goal was to destroy the military capability of the other side, and their armies.

The War on Terror is being fought on all fronts, and Al Qaeda is active on all the traditional fronts, as well as two new ones.

One newly emerging front is becoming clear:

the enemy desires to target civilians more than they desire to target the military in order to make quantum advances in psychological warfare and political processes.

They make the largest advances by killing innocent civilians, and the more innocent the civilian is, the better. The more atrocious the death of the civilian, and the more publicity it gets that instills fear in the population, the better. The publicity it gets instills fear and causes political and psychological goals they desire to win the war, and it has been successful.


A second emerging front is also clarifying:

The enemy infiltrates into regions and gains a power base before becoming active in military operations. When they become active, they use guerilla warfare against civilians to gain political, economic, military, industrial, or propaganda advantage.

An example is the uprising in Iraq. Zarquawi was relatively unknown until the Al Sadr uprising, then he emerged with a vengeance. He recruited, infiltrated, and set up his operations. Once he was in place and ready, he became active in the background of the Al Sadr uprising, eventually rising to eclipse it and become the leading counter-Coalition force in Iraq.

If they were to gain some type of military advantage or superweapon, like Hitler desired, we could be in serious jeopardy. Civilians would be the primary target, not military capability. Military capability is immaterial to them becasue they avoid confronting the military due to the fact they always lose.

Stonewall Jackson often used the Bible to review tactics and determine the nature of a foe, and in this case it fits to a "T". Thats probably why he is famous and I am not..LOL

The same tactics we face today were used by the Amalekites against ancient Israel during the Exodus.

Caller claims US attacks by Japan's Red Army to avenge Hiroshima

AMMAN (AFX) - An anonymous caller claimed responsibility for the spate of attacks in the US on behalf of Japan's Red Army militant group to "avenge the dead of Hiroshima".

"An anonymous caller speaking Arabic like a foreigner claimed responsibility for the attacks in a call to our newspaper," the editor of the weekly Al-Wahdeh newspaper, Fakhri Kawar, told Agence France-Presse.

"He said the attacks were carried out to avenge the dead of Hiroshima and Nagasaki," he said.

Japan marked the 56th anniversary of the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima by the United States during World War II on August 6. More than 200,000 people were killed in that attack, while Nagasaki was likewise bombed on August 9, 1945.

Kawar, a former deputy, said the caller gave no more details and hung up quickly. "We take this claim seriously," he said.

About 20 Japanese companies have offices in New York's World Trade Center twin towers which were hit by two planes in the presumed attacks, Japan Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Amman (MENO) - In an unconfirmed report, sources from the Amman offices of Al Jazeerah satellite news channel indicated that a call came in from a caller who was "speaking Arabic with an accent" claimed that the Japanese Red Army is claiming responsibility for today's attacks against U.S. targets in New York and Washington D.C. Middle East News Online has been unable to verify these claims.

The communist group said that the attacks came in retaliation for US atomic bombs that killed thousands of Japanese in the World War II in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The Japanese Red Army is an international militant group formed around 1970 after breaking away from Japanese Communist League-Red Army Faction. The JRA was led by Fusako Shigenobu until her arrest in Japan in November 2000. The JRA's historical goal has been to overthrow the Japanese Government and monarchy and to help foment world revolution.

Earlier today, the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine initially took responsibility, but later an official from the organization denied any involvement. Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat condemned the attacks.

An international terrorist group formed around 1970 after breaking away from Japanese Communist League-Red Army Faction. Led by Fusako Shigenobu, believed to be in hiding outside Japan. Stated goals are to overthrow Japanese Government and monarchy and to help foment world revolution. Organization unclear but may control or at least have ties to Anti-Imperialist International Brigade (AIIB). Details released following arrest in November 1987 of leader Osamu Maruoka indicate that JRA may have been organizing cells in Asian cities, such as Manila and Singapore. Has had close and longstanding relations with Palestinian terrorist groups--based and operating outside Japan--since its inception.

Activities

During the 1970s, JRA carried out a series of attacks around the world, including the massacre in 1972 at Lod Airport in Israel, two Japanese airliner hijackings, and an attempted takeover of the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. In April 1988, JRA operative Yu Kikumura was arrested with explosives on the New Jersey Turnpike, apparently planning an attack to coincide with the bombing of a USO club in Naples, a suspected JRA operation that killed five, including a US servicewoman. Kikumura was convicted of these charges and is serving a lengthy prison sentence in the United States. In March 1995, Ekita Yukiko, a longtime JRA activist, was arrested in Romania and subsequently deported to Japan.

The Japanese Red Army has stopped operating in Japan, though some of its members are in Lebanese camps. Others have joined revolutionary movements in Latin America, including in Peru and Colombia.

Steve Emerson on MSNBC now. He said if he were making the decision, he would raise NYC to RED. Said this is very serious - latest intel coming from the person they caught last week crossing the Mexican border. ALso said they have names of specific corporations being targeted.

Really? Are you staying home next week? I wonder how they're getting the info out of the woman they nabbed. Probably put a jockstrap or tighty whities over her head. In all series, how devoted to the cause can these people be if they crack in less than a week?

If I were a betting man, I would say be careful in NYC for the near future in NYC.

The cell members she has compromised will be hunted men ( or women) and they will either have to act, go on the run, or hit a secondary target already agreed upon that she isnt giving up.

We also have to be concerned that she's not giving them disinformation to cover an attack someplace else. I have to believe that they have been schooled on what to say if caught. Does anyone here have first hand experience in the interrogation methods that we might use in this type of situation?

I've interviewed probably a thousand criminals over the years for all sorts of crimes ( murder to hit and run car accidents), and some universal rules apply.

They never give up everything on the first interview. It is usually all a pack of lies directed at placing the blame on someone or something else.

Second interviews usually result in half truths and partial disclosures designed to minimize the suspects involvement with whatever they are involved in so they get a reduced charge or witness protection.

Third interviews usually give you complete disclosure, but you never know all the details unless forensics proves them for you.

I've never known one criminal suspect to freely confess everything they did and go into exact detail.

I've been surfing this morning and noted two stories that apply to her arrest:

1) increased awareness of the US -Mexico border as a path of infiltration by large numbers of Al Qaeda operatives

2) her disclosures of pending attacks and plans.


I dont think there has been time to completely drag everything out of her, nor do I think she knows it all.

Be carefull when passing the Port Authority Bus Terminal, which shows up as a target on that OBL/NYC map. Is your building as secure as it was in the days following 09.11? That's one of the things that I've observed -- the security going into office buildings is still pretty tight. In fact, I recently had a problem getting into a mid-town building on 6th Ave. because my name was spelled incorrectly on the list that security was using to screen guests, and the person I was meeting with had to come down and get me. And yes, they searched my brief case.
