I know I'm a first time poster, but I've been reading Free Republic for some time. I want to offer some personal observations that will encourage the supporters of Herman Cain. I know there's no reason to believe what I say, but I think you'll find that what I say supports what others have been saying. My information is obtained from independent sources, not from other Free Republic posters.
First of all, the poll produced by Insider Advantage is not accurate. Insider Advantage does not have a good history when it comes to polls. They predicted in 2000 that Jeb Bush would lose, and that Georgia was a toss up State. Don't put much stock in that poll.
Isakson is not leading by 20+ points. The Isakson campaign knows this and are now openly talking about being in a run-off. I have heard that a recent Isakson internal poll shows Isakson at 44% and Cain at 36%. I'm not the first poster here to report this information.
I have it on good information that a large metro-Atlanta County (a Republican stronghold) is seeing a significant number of African-Americans vote in the Republican primary, during the early voting period occuring this week. It is rumored that this is also happening in a large metro-Atlanta County that is a Democrat stronghold. This is not good news for Isakson.
The Collins campaign is set to go hard after Isakson this weekend on TV in a last ditch effort to overcome Cain. This will further drop Isakson's support, and is not likely to harm Cain. Cain is too far ahead of Collins for Collins to overtake Cain.
I'm not the first to predict this, but Herman Cain and Johnny Isakson will be in a runoff. If Isakson is 46% or less, Cain will win the runoff, and become the next US Senator from Georgia.
Welcome onboard.
Thanks!
Is Cain a Democrat or a Republican?
We shall soon see -- go Cain!
This was not a very prescient prediction, since Jeb Bush wasn't even up for re-election in 2000.
I don't agree. It will be Isakson and Collins in the runoff.
I think this would be a great development nationaly for the Republican party. Cain has a stellar record. See the clubforgrowth.com for more details.
Im sorry! You're correct. In 2002, Insider Advantage predicted that Jeb would lose, and that Barnes would win big. My apologies.
Your out of your mind if you think Collins will beat Cain.
It'll either be Isakson and Cain in the runoff (which would be very, very interesting), or Isakson will scrape out 50%+ a few.
I'd be happy with either really. Both good guys as far as I'm concerned.
Cain doesn't have a record, he's never been in office. You might like his position on the issues, but that's not his record.
Anyhow, it basically comes down to this: Do you want a new Paul Coverdell in the Senate (Isakson), or a new Phil Gramm (Cain)?
I'd be fine with either.
May i make a request (or word of advice): not all of us are from Georgia. I'm from Virginia and I don't know who is running for what in other states, but I'm interested. I'm interested how the Conservative / Republican candidates are doing in both House and Senate races in those other states.
So, please write out the whole name and party for us in other states. For example, when I write about my Senators: Senator John Warner (R-VA) and Senator George Allen (R-VA), or Congressman, Representative Virgil Goode (R-VA 5th dist.), I write them out for those in other states not familiar with Virginia.
Bottom line: I'm as interested as you are, but I'm out of the "Georgia loop", so I don't know how to reply or whether to be encouraged or discouraged...
Thanks Geist Krieger, I'll do that in future posts. As for this post, here's the information: Johnny Isakson is the Republican from Georgia's 6th Congressional District, it covers north-western metro Atlanta. Mac Collins is the Republican from Georgia's 8th Congressional District, which covers from just south of Atlanta down to Columbus.
I'm voting for Collins.
welcome.
We have a Herman Cain pinglist around here somewheres...
No. I want a Georgia version of Jesse Helms..Mac Collins..Mac has the experience..he is not a moderate like Isakson...he is not inexperienced like Cain....With Collins you will get hard work, straight talk and common sense solutions....I hope Georgians don't make the mistake like Virginia did when the Virginia GOP nominated that Oliver North instead of a good man like Reagan's former OMB chief Jim Miller....
Republican.
Self-made millionaire.
Former CEO and COTB for Godfather's Pizza (among other things).
Solid conservative.
Solid Christian - but no theocrat.
Backs the Traditional Marriage amendment.
IIRC, I have heard he backs "English first" propositions.
I'm voting for him, and have been doing local work for his southern campaign office.

Thanks. Having Cain (or Collins) in the Senate would be wonderful. Its a shame they are working against each other. IMHO, one of them, (prefably Collins, because Cain is more conservative and seems to be doing better in the polls) should drop out.
I don't know anything about either Isakson or Collins...but on a national level, the party could use a Herman Cain.
