SPEARFISH -- Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., said Thursday that he was very concerned about homeland security issues in the face of what he called the most sobering terror report he had heard recently.
The United States is tightening security in the face of a steady stream of intelligence indicating an attack aimed at disrupting elections, the White House said Thursday.
The Department of Homeland Security is addressing the threat and has efforts underway to ''ramp up security,'' White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Thursday.
"It is absolutely essential for the U.S. Senate to turn its attention to what we can do to make America safe," Daschle said.
Of particular concern are the nation's borders and ports, Daschle said, and there are security issues unresolved as the homeland security appropriations are "hung up" in the Senate.
Asked if the timing of the terror concerns might be aimed at stealing political thunder from the announcement of John Edwards as the democratic vice presidential candidate, Daschle replied, "The report is so sobering and so serious that I cannot bring myself to believe anyone in this administration would use this for political purposes."
Daschle said the most recent terror briefing was the second this week and contained information that there is a higher threat than there has been at any time since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Some people have their own agendas and don't care that there are other things to discuss.
"What most racists really object"
While I admit that the two issues are separate, you're no better than Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson, playing the race card.
Read the thread, I did not intiate the subject of a terrorist threat entering illegally I merely responded to the observation made by Dougherty.
You then responded to me and accused me of being a racist and incredibly accused me of trying to hijack the thread. My comments were germain and in no way racist. Your intrusions have been boorish and without good cause. If you cannot comment on the merits at least have the good grace to leave the ad hominim alone.
You did NOT respond to doughty, but instead, posted that which was out of place and included ad hominems implied and inferred and outright stated.Since you posted it to me and I bit on your "bait",one can only assume that you were indeed looking for a flame war.Needless to say,you and your now arch post, should repel everyone and prove that you are attempting to high-jack and maul this thread.
Sorry, pet, that's not going to fly. :-)
Correction: Bayourod originally accused me of racism. Nopardons subsquently accused me of being anti-mexican.
None of this is necessary. We have different views on immigration and its security implications for the Homeland.
Why don't we just leave it there.
Daschle concerned about 'sobering' terror briefing

No one, no one could support an administration which through CONSCIOUS neglect of our borders permitted terrorists with WMDs to slip in and murder tens of thousands of Americans, and that is the real risk the Bush administration is courting.
"WASHINGTON - The FBI is intensifying efforts nationwide to enlist Muslims, Arab Americans and Sikhs to help thwart a possible terrorist attack this summer or fall."
""It is different, and it is sobering," Ridge said of the intelligence on CBS television's "The Early Show."
You posted to me,remember? It was looooooooooooooong after that post. Please don't go all coy on me now.The nose in the air was bad enough...this Kerrying is worse.
I can't tell you the eerie feeling the folks on the plane near me experienced. Everyone just stopped talking until the plane turned.
I did not stop looking for anyone of Arab descent until that stinking plane started turned left...finally.
You posted to me,out of the blue,at #155.But you can't handle my replies. What is completely unnecessary, ares your subsequent replies, from #155 on down. You want to make this all about you and about illegal immigrants. And playing games isn't going to help you.
I already lost people I knew on 9/11 and so did my daughter and many of my friends.I don't want to ever have to go through that again.
I know he knows more than we do..obviously. Still doesn't change the fact that the chart needs to go.
I think it's dumb too,but he'd be roundly criticized,if there wasn't one.It's a lose/lose situation.
There was a big thread here -- 600+ posts.
The seminar posters and trolls got it first kicked to the backroom, and then deleted.
In a nutshell, the guy (in the Fox report) said they've got about 20 nukes here, the gov't is full aware of it, and, they intend on using them, soon -- and, that these nukes are the reason for the terror alert.
Daschole's panic seems consistent with that evidence, IMO.
You do a darn good job of appearing that way, perhaps you're on some kind of medication then. Either way, I'll pass on you offer.
A Territory that had attempted to gain Statehood for 40+ years, still a protectorate considered important to the defense of the mainland and Country. The President seemed to grasp that, delcaring war the following day.
Pearl City was damaged and there were casualties. How many is not known as there were no separate counts made.(Prolly cause it didn't matter, we were not at war, couldn't be determined in some cases, and because military personel are considered civilians in that circumstance.) 2403 casualties(civilian and military) with half as many injured, and every bit as devastating to the Country, perhaps more so.
Both were terror attacks, both were severe miscalculations, both used Kamakazi pilots, both could have been much worse.
It might be a little easier to understand written English, if you typed it.
She has a brother who works at the pentagon. He came to his sister and told her he was put on alert (my mom didnt ask what he does there) and he told his sister that she should stock up on canned food and water. He was not supposed to tell anyone, and made his sister say she wouldnt tell anyone and of course she proceeds to tell my mom.
There have BEEN PSAs (public service annoucements) running on radio for months advising people to have some canned food and bottled water in reserve and maybe some medical provisions (including enough of whatever prescription medications you require).
I think it is Tom Ridge who speaks on them but I am not certain.
If the provisions are not needed for an emergency, you've got them for use in your pantry as needed. The ads don't mention "tape" or other such items.
It isn't a secret to have things on hand.
Just the word "sobering" strikes terror in the heart of Kennedy. (Wait, can I use "heart" and "Kennedy" in the same sentence?)
