They're assuming that Cheney helped Bush get elected in the first place. He didn't. There was all kinds of flack about Cheney in the first election, and Bush won anyway.

I'm a Bush supporter right now. But if he put McCain on the ticket as VP I would find it very, very difficult to vote for them.

I think, er, "Dump" is a bad word here.
However, "reassignment" would be good.
Listen, the word out in the trenches, among Mr. and Mrs. America is, unfortunately, that Cheney is balast around Bush's legs. He needs to be jettisoned to a cabinet position, and a strong VP put in for the second term. Sorry, Cheney fans, but Dick will be more powerful and influential in another post, and will be a credit to the effort in that regard.

I disagree. Besides there is no one else to tap. The GOP has a really weak bench. Frist isn't the star that some say he is, and Guiliani doesn't open up NY. I love Rudy, but I think it is an unwise move.
Cheney is sound. Cheney is the guy.

The Fonz should make better use of his time by keeping one eye on his very young new wife and the other on the contractors who are building his monstrosity in Long Beach.

Allie D should get in the STFU line right behind Pat Buchanan.

**Alfonse DAmato said Bush should consider putting Secretary of State Colin Powell or Sen. John McCain of Arizona on the GOP ticket.**
I still say Rudy Giuliani.

If Al had the interest of this election
and of this country in the forefront
of his mind, he wouldn't
blab to the newspaper --- he'd
make the suggestion in private.

I'm intrigued by the question of why D'Amato, who as the article mentions is a successful lobbyist, would risk the opprobrium of fellow Republicans, including those at the White House, by calling for the replacement of Cheney.
It's hard to see what he had to gain from it - unless he was secretly encouraged by the Bush people to do so, and I don't believe that.
My hunch is that D'Amato, who loves the game of politics, simply couldn't resist sharing a deeply-held belief.

And we should take advice from Senator Pothole, who was run out of office by Senator Putzhead, because???

I like Cheney and hope he stays, but it would be fun to have Colin Powell on the ticket just to watch the 'rats. Provided some illness couldn't be arranged in time for Edwards, they would spend the next four years desperately seeking a black face -- any black face -- for the ticket. And their choices range from bad to worse.
Surely Colin has at least one or two conservative positions we could cheer about ....

Al will forever be an ***hole in my book. When the death of Vince Foster was being investigated in his committee, he had the right to call troopers Larry Patterson and Roger Perry. They wanted to testify. They would have testified that Perry found out about the death of Foster 15 minutes before the body was found. He was on duty at the Arkansas governor's mansion and took the call from Helen Dickey, Chelsea's nanny -- "Vince Foster got off from work and went out to the parking lot and shot himself in the head." Dickey lied in her testimony and said she found out after Clinton was told while he was on Larry King. The troopers would have shown her to be a liar and the Foster mystery might have been solved. I believe he shot himself, but I also believe the body was moved.
Had the troopers been called, I believe it would have been the end of the Clintons, both of them.
