FBI urges vigilance for July 4
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A constant stream of intelligence indicating that al Qaeda wants to strike the United States this summer or fall has led federal officials to urge increased vigilance during the Independence Day weekend, but there is no specific threat of an attack timed to the holiday.

I absoloutely agree. I hope you stay and contribute to the thread. There's a wide array of personalities and opinions and you'll find you won't agree with many of them a lot of the time. I certainly don't! But it all adds to the mix.
Well folks- have to get off for now. Keep up the good work!
You are right. There's little room for emotional reactions, but we are all at such a high stress level from handling so much of this information that we sometimes react in an "over the top" manner.
Please give room to those of us who's cups are full, and at least understand why.
If you've read the Thread Matrix from day one as I have, you begin to notice a pattern of odd occurrences over the past year or so, such as tanker-truck thefts, wildfires (which terrorists have said they would attempt), people buying up ammonia at Home Depot - you name it. When you add them all up, you say to yourself: Something's not right here. I thank God that TM'ers are vigilant enough to notice the patterns and put them all in one place - lord knows if our government is bothering to compile it all. All these occurrences may not be related to terrorism, but then again: They could be.
fair enough and thanks for the welcome!
now i will say this. i live in nyc, heart of it, and there's an muslim-owned convenient store across the street from my house. looking out, i started to notice the store closed at odd times. in fact, just before one of the conjectured dates of attack, i noticed the store not open for a couple of days. kind of worried me. after a few days, it reopened, and i went over to get a beer and chat with the dude who owned the place. saw that he had his arm in a cast and turns out he had been in an accident and his son was on his honeymoon and couldn't open the store for him. i was quite glad to have had my suspicions for the moment proven unfounded. and i made a promise to myself to try not to think of things in terms of 'the storefront's closed, the muslims must have left town' because that would have gotten me all panicked and prevented me from taking a deep breath. just my two cents.
i want us all to be vigilant, but not panicked!!!
However, how many people thought that 4 middle eastern men signing up for flight lessons at a small airport in Florida was an odd thing back then? Not many.
Sometimes its the little pieces of the puzzle that we dismiss as nothings that make sense and were never caught.
I'd rather have too much info and be able to dismiss it then to never have had someone speak up on something they thought was odd or strange.
"...immediate "oh god, they're hitting the trains/whatever" every time we hear something like that."
No one here has ever shown themselves to be a "chicken little".
i agree completely. it's not the information itself, it's the tone i quibble with.
Chaney=Cheney
YEP...the big chilll...we're coming to get you, ah ha, ah ha....hopefully...
Fair enough. Stick around, the more the merrier.
i recall a post when there was an accident on the Goethals bridge in NYC (this would have been right around the 1-95 tanker) to the effect of
"Dear God, they're closing off the escape routes"
in fact, the Goethals bridge would not be any sort of a major escape route for the majority of folks in Manhattan and further, imagine stumbling onto that post and needing to take ten seconds to clean your drawers. far as I know, AQ did not attack that day, nor were "they" closing off anything.
sorry if this sounds contentious, but you asked for an example AND called me a troll.

Post the EXACT posting regarding this bridge incident, then we can discuss. Your interpretation of the post holds no water with me.
how did i 'interpret' the post?
i'm trying to find the thread as i type.
I don't want to be a pessimist, but in my opinion, there is no way we can stop the kind of attack I'm talking about once the players are in place and ready to pull the cord. The only way to prevent such an attack is during the planning stages before the enemy even sets foot in the transit station. I doubt even the best sharp shooter in the world could target the bomber among the thousands of commuters and then pick him or her off in the split second between when he yells "Allah Akbar" and when he pulls the cord.
We need a little perspective. (That doesn't mean we like getting it!)
Thank you, I will
