FBI urges vigilance for July 4

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A constant stream of intelligence indicating that al Qaeda wants to strike the United States this summer or fall has led federal officials to urge increased vigilance during the Independence Day weekend, but there is no specific threat of an attack timed to the holiday.

I'm still catching up on this thread. I read your comments and almost wept. Your writing is so visual. I can see them there, sitting at the radio, knowing in their hearts what it was all about. These are the kind of folks who worked hard, who rose with the sun seven days of the week, who asked for nothing of no one, who took care of their families, they didn't ask for special treatment or live on welfare. They knew that the strength of their nation was based on honesty and lots of hard work and loyalty.
It was the same in Australia when we arrived as migrants from europe. The folks were a little apprehensive of us, but once they found out we were also prepared to work and assimmilate, they were the salt of the earth. Strangers came forth and helped us to settle in. They were good neighbours in every sense of the word.
I don't know what changed, I'm not sure when. But something happened, first, in the education system. As children we lined up before the flag and swore an oath to be true to the King/Queen of England...our history lessons taught us who we were in the world. Citizenship wasn't offered for 5 years. It was considered an honour to become an Australian, to be able to vote.
All that sadly, went out of the door with 'multiculturalism' and now we have the same situation as in the US - maybe not quite as bad - a whole bunch of people who, while enjoying all the benefits of being Australian, continuously put the country down. It's almost become fashionable. I'm really sick of hearing how selfish and how xenophobic we are (from the Left) it was the hard working, honest family and their values that made this country great. The whingers are riding on their backs.

Well, I prefer America's enemies to be captured vs being bombed or shot.
The info we could get from a captured enemy could be priceless.
That's best case scenario, though.

but from a gut feeling, I like the idea of Omar looking up at a missile zeroing in on him.

it's the "oh sh*t" factor that appeals

I guess it would be just as nice to imagine him answering the door (or whatever the equivalent on a cave may be) and seeing a few of our finest there to say "Hey, Omar! why don't you take a little ride with us."

Whereas the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001 have marked the beginning of the war to end global terrorism;

Whereas the terrorist attacks have caused the American people to denounce all individuals, groups, organizations, and nations who threaten, support, or commit acts of terrorism against the United States, her allies, and all other U.S. interests;

Whereas the terrorist attacks have forced the U.S. military, the U.S. law enforcement community, and the American people to be more vigilant against terrorism;

Whereas in order to encourage more vigilance against terrorism and keep alive the memory of those killed on September 11, 2001 as well as the victims of other terrorist attacks, the 'National Day of Vigilance' will be observed on September 11th of each year;

Whereas under the guidance of the National Day of Vigilance Task Force, the 'National Day of Vigilance' which was created, secured, and initiated by the FIT-AIM-ACT Campaign for America's Defense, represents an ongoing commitment from the American people to year-round vigilance against terrorism;

Now, therefore, be it resolved that this resolution has been adopted by individuals, businesses, and organizations proclaiming the 'National Day of Vigilance' an annual day of rededication to year-round vigilance against terrorism and a tribute to those killed on September 11, 2001 as well as the victims of other terrorist attacks.
