FBI urges vigilance for July 4

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A constant stream of intelligence indicating that al Qaeda wants to strike the United States this summer or fall has led federal officials to urge increased vigilance during the Independence Day weekend, but there is no specific threat of an attack timed to the holiday.

Separately, a Democratic senator told CNN, "It is the most worrisome situation since 9/11."

A Republican, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said he didn't hear a specific reference to 9/11, but said that was the clear impression left by the briefers.

Al Qaeda's publication Al Battar or "The Sword" is an online training camp for its network around the world, Weimann noted. Edition nine of the publication was devoted to kidnappings. It suggests methods, potential targets, negotiating tactics, and even directions on how to videotape the beheading of victims and post the video on the Web. That issue was posted before the recent round of kidnappings and beheadings in Iraq.

The latest edition, number 13, was posted to Al Qaeda's Web site Wednesday. Weimann said it is not yet fully translated, but its central theme is weaponry. (snipped)

The prepare for "30 days"

Speculating here. Perhaps it is to let the muslims know it will be within the next 30 days. We are getting the impression it will be between July 11 - 15 and there has been some good dot-connecting to indicate such. But, they will take the opportunity to strike when it seems the most opportune, within the next 30 days.

Al-Qaeda: Italy is Next Target

A purported Al-Qaeda statement has threatened Italy will be its next target in retaliation for the policy of Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

The statement, written in poor Italian and believed to be by Osama bin Laden, has been published in an Islamist site and included in the evening news broadcast of an Italian TV channel.

To all who speak Italian, starts the statement, written with numerous grammar and spelling mistakes and published together with a text in Arabic.

This is the first time that Al-Qaeda threatened the Italians in their own native language.

At the beginning of July Paris and Rome announced they are taking terror threats against European targets very seriously.

"We're taking these threats seriously," Berlusconi told reporters back then, noting that Italian security forces had 14,000 sites under surveillance.
