FBI urges vigilance for July 4
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A constant stream of intelligence indicating that al Qaeda wants to strike the United States this summer or fall has led federal officials to urge increased vigilance during the Independence Day weekend, but there is no specific threat of an attack timed to the holiday.

SNIPPET: "Suspicious craft"
"30.06.2004 at 0500 LT in posn 12:25N - 049:33E, Gulf of Aden.
Duty officer of a container ship underway spotted two crafts lying ahead at a distance of 5 miles. They suddenly moved at high speed towards the ship. Duty officer directed searchlights and crafts turned away and sped off."
That was my first thought the first time I saw the composite in the local newspaper. If I recall correctly, LEO subsequently ID'ed him and he had a Hispanic name, but I don't recall that they ID'ed his country of origin. (I posted the link many thousands of posts ago.) The Philippines remains a real possibility. Also, a few days after he showed up in the Hudson River, a ship from the far east exploded off the coast of Va. That ship originated in the far east (Malaysia, I think), and one of her last port of calls before the explosion was Albany, NY, which is about 100 miles up river from where this guy was found. My theory is that when that ship was traveling down the Hudson River to the NY Harbor and eventually the Atlantic Ocean, this guy dropped off the ship when it slowed to pass through the Hudson Highlands area (near West Point), which is only a few miles north of the Indian Point Nuke Facility.
Whoa - that train was stopped in Twin Cities!
Updated: 07/06/2004 06:03:51 PM - VIDEO
An Amtrak train that made a stop in St. Paul earlier today has been evacuated in Portage, Wisconsin for what is being called a police investigation. The train originated in Seattle and is on the way to Chicago.
Passengers aboard were taken to a nearby school. Amtrak says if the investigation lasts much longer, they will be transported by bus to Chicago. Amtrak says it will remove all passenger belongings before the buses leave.
We spoke with passengers aboard from the Twin Cities. Greg Luce says most people are calm, but Amtrak is not telling the passengers much about the situation.

Quix - what's going on with your tooth? (Just read about something that sounds like what I have right now in the 1800s of the thread here).
I had 3 'cracked' molars repaired 3 weeks ago with this nifty "CEREC" (Chairside Economical Restoration or something like that, where they make a new, porcelain filling [instead of a crown] with a CAD system), and am still suffering 3 weeks later (still can't chew on that side without pain). Had lots of meds (including steroids to get the 'pulp' of the tooth to unswell). Getting REALLY tired of it! Been back 3 times now for "bite adjustment" since the new teeth were not shaped entirely correctly and I kept slamming them into the teeth below when chewing. (Let me tell ya..that hurts - a LOT).
Don't want to do the dreaded "root canal" thing - cost and pain both..but, I'm wondering if I'll EVER get better at this point..(Doc says "it might hurt that way for a couple of months"..oh, GREAT!)
What's going on with your situation over there?
What's the latest on the fruit stand in NY? I'm hearing rumblings of muslims being conspicuous by their absence.
The fruit stand re-opened after the 6 month absence. A new ME guy took over. He's been there every day for the past two months. I've been checking daily - if he goes missing I'll be sure to post.
Thanks ffnj.
I just copied you in email. When you get the computer set up, you can check the copy in Yahoo Mail.
Passengers Held For Two Hours Due To Concern POSTED: 3:02 pm EDT July 6, 2004
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A "homeland security issue" caused the lockdown of a cruise ship docked in Port Everglades for several hours Tuesday.
Federal Customs agents locked down the Regal Empress cruise ship after it docked at Terminal 21 at Port Everglades. The cruise liner arrived at Port Everglades around 8 a.m. Customs agents noticed a discrepancy in the passenger manifest so they did not let anyone off the ship until it was resolved, Broward Sheriff's Office spokesman Jim Lejedal said.
The Regal Empress is operated by Imperial Majesty Cruise Line and can carry 905 passengers and a crew of 396. The ship specializes in short cruises from Fort Lauderdale to Nassau in the Bahamas, according to Imperial Majesty's Web site.....
Everyone was allowed leave the ship and terminal by 12:30 p.m. The discrepancy that caused the lock down has not yet been explained....

Panama Tells Canal Ships to Tighten Security
July 7, 2004 6:45 AM PANAMA CITY (Reuters) - The Panama Canal Authority has warned ships to tighten security against a possible terror attack or face being denied passage through the waterway linking the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.
Juan Hector Diaz, the authority's security chief, told Reuters on Tuesday that security has been ramped up to protect the canal, which handles 14,000 ships per year, the majority from the United States, Japan and China.
The United States has said it will strictly enforce the code, pledging to board every ship in its waters from July 1 and potentially turning away vessels not compliant with the new anti-terror measures.....
"Vessels that are not able to fully comply with these requirements ... shall be considered in violation of Panama Canal regulations ... which may result in delays or denial of transit," the authority said.....
Nearly 4.5 percent of global maritime trade passes through the waterway.
Jeserygirl reported last week that she has seen a recent decline in the number of burkas in the Center City area of Philli. Fruitguy was there the last time I checked on him, which was the third week of June. What have you seen/heard? I think the next big date is 07.15.04, which is the date that OBL/AQ promised to end his self-imposed truce against the west.
Very exciting Piper. I can't beleive I did not have
the TV on, I almost always do. I wonder what caused
the fire.
