FBI urges vigilance for July 4

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A constant stream of intelligence indicating that al Qaeda wants to strike the United States this summer or fall has led federal officials to urge increased vigilance during the Independence Day weekend, but there is no specific threat of an attack timed to the holiday.

how should anyone be able to access AF1, the security there should not even begin to compare with security in other places.

That's exactly the same thing my husband said when I read the post to him......raises eyebrows considerably if true.

Wonder what set this guy off?!

Man crashes SUV into terminal at Fort Lauderdale airport

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — A man drove his sport utility vehicle into a crowded airport terminal building on Sunday, slamming into a ticket counter and smashing through a wall before coming to a stop, officials said.

Two sheriff’s deputies and a federal air marshal at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport tackled the driver as he tried to escape and took him into custody, said Hugh Graf, a spokesman for the Broward County sheriff.

The driver, Alex Vila, 33, of Williamston, Mich., was treated at a hospital for minor scrapes and was being questioned. No one else was hurt, Graf said.

Vila had not been charged as of Sunday afternoon.

Airport officials did not immediately return a call seeking comment. No one was at the Southeast Airlines counter when the vehicle drove into it, and the airline’s operations were not affected, said Milton Corchado, director of in-flight operations for Southeast.

There are old timers around here that still eat possum, when they're lucky enough to catch them alive.

I hate to burst your bubble about Tommy Franks, but my friends in the Special Operation Command HATED him in Afghanistan. In the book "The Hunt for Bin Laden: Task Force Dagger" this was the start of their feelings for General Franks (just the start) on page 29:

Some operators believed that Franks had already screwed up the OBJECTIVE RHINO mission by making it too heavy, too slow and too stupid. Several senior Special Forces Officers suggested that Franks needs adult supervision and that he is clueless. The next day Franks was complaining that using special ops was a mistake, that the war in afghanistan was for heavy metal conventional units. But it was too late, Rumsfeld want Special Forces boots on the ground.

This book, BTW is the first definitive story of what happened on the ground from Sept. 12th and for the next 100 days in Afghanistan. SpecOps inserted immediately. A force of 100 "operators" killed over THIRTY THOUSAND TALIBAN and AQ! They used the Northern Alliance troops, air strikes and direct action cave by cave. It almost got screwed up when the heavy metal boys showed up. The Afghans showed the Soviets how to fight that kind of war. Whereas they simply couldn't cope with the D-Boys (Delta Force), the SF (Green Berets), SEALs and British SAS. My buddies would rotate back to the States and simply tell me to "read the book" since they themselves were forbidden from discussing it. But author Robin Moore actually went out on OPS with them and saw it from all sides. You may remember Moore, he wrote the Original book: The Green Berets which later became the movie starring John Wayne. Moore is the only journalist to ever actually get airborne qualified by attending jump school and by attending the SF "Q" Course. Everytime I see Franks name my gut rolls over. Read the book!

"The Hunt for Bin Laden: Task Force Dagger" by Robin Moore.

Here's one more example of the Psych War they waged: The SF guys knew how the Taliban and AQ treated women and so when they began calling in air strikes using AWACS they got a female radar operator that they called The Angel of Death to get on Taliban radio frequencies to tell them she was using American secret weapons to kill them and they should be ashamed of how they treated women and so they would know that the person directing their demise was a woman! This drove AQ nuts!

Read the book. It's out in paperback, now.
