If there were no restrictions on age, weight, fitness, etc., would you sign up to join the War on Terror??

This is a vanity poll, due to the news today that the Army may be dipping into the Individual Ready Reserve pool. Several Freepers have indicated they would go if called upon, but they don't think they will be called due to their age.

Sure. I know what it's all about. I was in during 'Nam. But I'm 56, overweight, outta shape, bad asthma, can't focus simultaneously on the frontsight and target anymore, and have a badly herniated disk. So I'll be damned if I will be wasting my time policing up cigarette butts this time around, or spitshining floors, or typing up morning reports. I'll only go if I can kill, Kill, KILL!!! -- 24/7 more or less. :-)

But yes, I would go.

I received information and am trying to work things out in my life so that things at home are/will be taken care of and that my other half will be OK.

Yep, Canuks are welcome! Served with several from north of the border. One had served in the Canadian Forces in Korea, and wore a "Mentioned In Dispatches" ribbon on his USAF Class-A blouse (only one I've ever seen).

Another went through Crypto school at FE Warren AFB, and got assigned to SAC in Spain before anyone figgered out, Oops, foreigners shouldn't have this clearance, and besides, this guy's family are Albanian immigrants! Kids of Albanian immigrants who are Canadian citizens probably shouldn't handle Top Secret, Single Integrated Operations Plan (TS/SIOP) message traffic.

IMHO,Canadians are an asset (so long as they leave the liberal BS and French accent behind).

I'm 56 and I would go right now. I feel like I gave up my life in the late 70's sitting on a missle tac site in Germany during the cold war while my civilian contemporaries were getting their Masters degrees. But send me now I'd love it!!!

Volunteered six times immediately after 9-11 for a recall to active duty. Since I was 60 at that time, the Navy was not interested, even though I am in good health (for an old phart).

But, if they would have me, I'd damn sure go! I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm better once than I ever was!

So I content myself by staying alert and remaining current at the range! If the shooting starts in my neck of the woods, I damn sure want to be ready and able to return fire!
