If there were no restrictions on age, weight, fitness, etc., would you sign up to join the War on Terror??
This is a vanity poll, due to the news today that the Army may be dipping into the Individual Ready Reserve pool. Several Freepers have indicated they would go if called upon, but they don't think they will be called due to their age.
Please post ONLY ONCE, and ONLY IF YOU WOULD GO, so that we can easily see the tally by looking at the number of replies.
I will be 39 this year, right after 9-11 I tried to figure out if I could join anything but I was "too old". I just got a job at an airport catering company, one of our contracts involves the troops rotating in and out of the middle east. you can guarantee I will be showing my appreciation when I see any of those folks.
I'd go only if I was at the front, killing terrorist cowards as often as possible.
I forgot who said it, but it was something like this: "The thing about combat is, if you're good, you only get better."
Very interesting thread. I turn 59 in August, got out, Nov. 1, 1967. Give me my old 1911A1 and my AT&T class (reach out and touch someone) M-14, we might have a deal.
I really don't think I would last too long before being brought up on charges of abuse. Rubbing bacon fat on the "rag heads", wouldn't go over too well.
I am 52 and a veteran, say when please, call me, collect, day or night and I'll be there. I can still pass the PFT.
In a second. Tried during Gulf War I.
Duh, I don't sleep with terrorists while there is a gun in the nightstand.
Roger that! This country has been good to me. I owe!
36F would go in a second!
LOL! You and me, both!
"I just saw that prisoner whimpering with a ham sandwich stuffed up his backside. You know anything about that, Flagg?"
"Yes, sir. I was just looking for some cheese and mayo.
And, sir? Our guest informed me that there's going to be an RPG attack at noon on the Baghdad police station #7."
Unequivocal YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Several months ago after I saw that Republican Strategist Rich Galen had volunteered to go to Iraq I looked into to see whether I might be able to go myself. Needless to say the bureaucratic hassles to go through were unreal and several months long. SO I had to give up going. But the Spirit was willing.
absolutely ... but those days are past for me ... until I can fill a need here at least.
I truly regret not having enlisted when I gave it some thought in my younger years. But if they'd have me now, at 38, give me some PT time, some training, and a barrel of ibuprofen, and I'm there.
I'll send my husband---he spent 6 years in the National Guard from 1966 to 1972---and watches all the military stuff on the HIstory Channel constantly commenting on how things could or should be done. Time to show what he can do!! :)
52 Viet Nam vet.
I'd go in a heartbeat.
I can still fix choppers and shoot.
Aged 54. I wwould go in .001 second. I am ready to rock' roll for the good ole USA!
Yes they can. I knew several who served during Vietnam and two of them died in the service.
I hear you loud and clear. I am 38, 16 years out of the Coast Guard. However, I have been approached by our local CG Auxilary. It seems they are looking for volunteers to help out the full time coasties in our area with some watch patrol. I am looking into it.
If we were under a full scale attack and more men were needed, I would not hesitate. It would be difficult to leave my wonderful family. But it would be worth it.
dam straight....old man here.......would enjoy sniping myself...
Guys like me have skills acquired over 40 + years that could and should be applied to the WOT, and I'm willing and wanting to do my part.
Induction screeners: HB = 52; BP = 112/76; Ht = 5'10"; Wt = 184lb; Hemorrhoids - negative.
On the negative side, I do have minor arthritis, a habit of consuming too much Scotch whiskey and Rioja wine, talking when I should listen, and occasionally (rarely) farting in public. Skills include, but are not limited to, getting things done, bypassing or surviving governmental nay-sayers and career bureaucrats, fair rifle shot, damn good pistol shot, and all around good guy! Call me! I'll be there!
Me cache en los Moros!
