If there were no restrictions on age, weight, fitness, etc., would you sign up to join the War on Terror??
This is a vanity poll, due to the news today that the Army may be dipping into the Individual Ready Reserve pool. Several Freepers have indicated they would go if called upon, but they don't think they will be called due to their age.
Please post ONLY ONCE, and ONLY IF YOU WOULD GO, so that we can easily see the tally by looking at the number of replies.
My son is 17 now & doesn't need his Mom like when he was younger. I'd go in a heartbeat. Terrorists don't stand a chance against a rifle packing Momma who thinks of all our brave troops as her sons & daughters. My son dreamed of joining the Marines. He spoke to them but he is not eligible due to a medical condition.
No dirty underpanties..
Age 58, retired Navy - I'd go in a minute!
Absolutely and without a doubt.
I am as healthy as a young man and I don't have any problems. I would want to go back into the Marines, was a S/Sgt in the Korean War. (that kind of dates me) I'm 5'10", weigh 173 and am fit. Work out at the gym and walk 3.5 miles 5 days a week. I hunt with a bow and also a rifle, and can hit what I aim at.
Seriously, I would go tomorrow, and I would be an asset to my unit & country. I am a unique (very fortunate) male species.
Oh, almost forgot, I cut about 3/8 of my index finger off in a joiner about 2 years ago, it has no bearing on my "trigger" finger. In case Kerry is reading this, I didn't lose any time off of work when it happened. Guess it wouldn't have qualified me for a Purple Heart.
Semper Fi
"In addition, I would happily do my part to increase morale amongst our fighting men." - whoa!
34 - I took all the USAF tests to fly in '91 and was told they couldn't guarantee me a cockpit so I hit the private sector. Regretted it ever since.
Yep, I've flown R/C planes for 35 years. I'd love to be the hot stick on an armed Predator...heheheh. With satellite technology, I could blow up Osama in Afghanistan from my easy chair in Alaska...LOL!
I can cook, and I can ride, and I can shoot a rifle. I would be proud to serve.

But otherwise, keep it going Freepers!
Hell Yes!
I'm age 39 and I can still pass the Navy PT test. They told me "no thanks".
I'm a professional artist (i.e. I earn a living at it) and would love to help the war effort in some way. My ideal situation would be to create and prepare psychological warfare materials and other graphics for use in the war on terror. My dream would be to head up (or be involved with) a new version of the Office of War Information (the one that produced all those posters during World War II), but I have no idea how to get the government interested in such an idea...
If any of you know of any war-related jobs involved with the graphic arts, design, publications design and/or production, or illustration, please let me know about them via Freepmail.
I'm 42, and would go in a heartbeat.
Hubby just turned 50, and wishes the Army would recall him.
Son is now 23, and joined the Navy immediately after 9-11. He's just about made up his mind to re-up.
My dog is getting up in years, and doesn't speak very well, but I'm pretty sure she'd join, if they'd have her.
Go hit the "abuse" button and get rid of all my responses after my first one.
You bet. Let's roll!
I'm a 63 year old retired Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer. I'd go as a ground pounding E-1 cannon fodder grunt if my country asked.
Yes, in a heartbeat
Even though a lot of us can't fight, we can help our soldiers.
Patriciaruth, Mo1 and others are part of a group called "The Merry Band of Patriots".
We have sent the soldiers cards, letters and books, DVDS, games, clothes, etc.
If you're interested, write patriciaruth or Mo1 for details.
Yes. In a heartbeat I would go.
I would but I am already here as a civilian, besides I would be medically ineligible....
