I just read where Hillary made the following comments in a speech:
"Many of you are well enough off that ... the tax cuts may have helped you," Sen. Clinton said. "We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."
So, I was just wondering if rich democrats are stupid? Someone tells them they are going to rob them, and they pay to get to hear this? What is wrong with this picture?
I beg to differ. I **know** a lot of these people, and many of them, the "wives" in particular, are very very simple-minded and naive. Frighteningly so. For them, the donations and the attendant social connections, are natural extensions of their "pink" perspective on the world.
A limosine liberal can abstractly care about the rain forests, the poor, and Halliburton because it feels good to do so, and has a certain moral quality that is otherwise lacking in their lives. Their views don't have to make sense, exactly, they just have to sound plausible and noble.
This opens the door to stupidity. Many rich liberals are caught in a self perpetuating spiral of stupid beliefs, grounded in fantasy, and buffered by conspiracy. Little things like facts are pointless distractions, at best.
No. Rich Democrats are not stupid. Witness the "Clinton years" -- similar sentiments were expressed by First Lady then Clinton -- however, she / admin manuevered to make them money elsewhere in other venues. Cattle futures, ring any bells?

Only anecdotal proof of this, but I believe that rich democrats tend to be wealthy by accident of birth or fame, whereas wealthy republicans more often are rich by working to build a business. When you are rich by accident, you are much moor likely to have guilt about it, and thus more likely to be a dem. An exception is the super-insane rich who are so wealthy that they could lose 90% of their money and still have a million times more than they could ever spend (e.g. Warren Buffet)
When I talk to liberals and mention something that the democrats said that contradicts their own beliefs, a glazed look usually comes over their eyes. I would assume that this was the case here.
True, although I would amend that to "Taxes on high incomes don't hurt those that can adjust their incomes easily..."
As a consultant, I can just tell my customers, "Well, I'm going to have to raise my rate because the government raised mine..." and they'll completely understand...and raise their rates on their customers accordingly. The tax eventually trickles down to those with little to no economic flexibility.
Whenever you see a rich Democrat spouting off about raising taxes, one of two outcomes are possible. The first is no matter what passes, it doesn't affect them. The second is that they know it won't pass are just giving lip service to tell the sheep what they want to hear. If there was any danger of the tax applying to them and they would lose money in the end, they would scream like stuck pigs against it.
Fair enough...there are certainly some dingbats among them who don't really understand what they are advocating....but make no mistake, there are those who do, and do it willingly.
Those who would rather rule in hell than have equality and rights in paradise.

Rich Democrats, such as the Hollywood left, trial lawyers, software billionaires and various Democrat politicians have so much wealth that they can afford to have some taken without feeling any pinch at all.
They feel that the money they would pay (assuming their financial managers can't figure out a way to help them shield their wealth) is well spent considering that it brings them political power and prestige.
It's the poor Democrats who are stupid -- or at least ignorant.
