Update:

IRAQ HANDOVER 'TODAY'

The handover of power in Iraq is to be brought forward to today.

A formal announcement will be made later today, Tony Blair said.

The informal announcement was made by Iraq's foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari.

The handover of power to an interim Iraqi government was supposed to take place on June 30.

Mr Zebari said the deteriorating security situation in the country was one of the reasons why the date had been brought forward.

"We will challenge these elements in Iraq, the anti-democratic elements, by even bringing the handover of sovereignty before June 30 as a sign we are ready for it," he said.

He added: "We have made some very good progress in terms of the new security council (in Iraq) and the return of sovereignty to the Iraqi people to take away the level of occupation we have suffered a great deal from.

"There are many Iraqis who are standing up to the challenge. We are here to seek more help and assistance, training and equipment."

FOX says they're denying it, it might have been the wrong guy.

Am I being too optimistic in thinking that, even if it's not him, if they even thought it was, chances are it's someone worth having?

I heard one of those babblers on MSNBC, the girl with long brown hair, say that during the meeting in Turkey, they saw Bush look at his watch, whisper something to Blair, and they both smiled. They now think it was the turnover!

Don't you love it because NOBODY knew?

One thing they need to learn: this man is a man of his word.

This could get very very fun!

According to the Boston Globe, mayor Menino (Dem) is really pi&&#ed at Kerry for cancelling the speech.

Let's hope Menino plays hardball and refuses to settle the union dispute before next month's donkey convention.

What in the world can Kerry do if they picket the convention???!!!!

Canadian Election--6/28 Live Thread: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1161511/posts

"The Canadian election is today. If the most recent polls are correct, the Conservative Party of Canada may win more seats in Canada's House of Commons, setting the stage for a Conservative minority government. A new day may be dawning in Canada. But the election is going to be close." —conservative in nyc

What a day!!

Contrast and compare: Bush imagines, plans, authorizes, and completes the liberation of 50 million severely repressed people, and Kerry can't shmooze policemen in his home town!!!!

That should say it all, even to diehard libs. (I know it won't but it SHOULD!) I, for one, will use this example all summer when I get into discussions with "undecideds."

I gather Kennedy was supposed to speak, too, but he at least had the decency (? maybe I mean cunning or self-preservation) to claim a "scheduling conflict" when he backed out, thereby not demonstrably offending anyone.

Pickets or no, the convention should be quite a spectacle!
