Update:

IRAQ HANDOVER 'TODAY'

The handover of power in Iraq is to be brought forward to today.

A formal announcement will be made later today, Tony Blair said.

The informal announcement was made by Iraq's foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari.

The handover of power to an interim Iraqi government was supposed to take place on June 30.

Mr Zebari said the deteriorating security situation in the country was one of the reasons why the date had been brought forward.

"We will challenge these elements in Iraq, the anti-democratic elements, by even bringing the handover of sovereignty before June 30 as a sign we are ready for it," he said.

He added: "We have made some very good progress in terms of the new security council (in Iraq) and the return of sovereignty to the Iraqi people to take away the level of occupation we have suffered a great deal from.

"There are many Iraqis who are standing up to the challenge. We are here to seek more help and assistance, training and equipment."

Too Jewish: Iraqis Replace New Flag After Hue and Cry
Newsmax

Oopsy: Iraq's new flag, only days old, has bit the dust because it looked too much like Israel's.

Red-faced leaders today displayed a new banner with a similar design, two blue stripes along the bottom with a yellow stripe between them, topped by a blue Muslim crescent in a white field. But now the blue is darker, unlike the pale blue of the Jewish nation's symbol.

Hameed al-Kafaei, a spokesman for the Iraqi Governing Council, insisted the hues had not been not changed. He claimed that "the copies you saw in newspapers were not accurate."

Hundreds of university students in Mosul demonstrated against the pale blue flag today and waved the old Saddam-era banner of red, black and green....

Heard he was of Pakistani heritage, so I'd say that's a good possibility.

The crescent is a light blue, the stripes are a deeper blue

Well, I find it hard to believe they'd behead one of their own.

I don't. It would be like finding it hard to believe a suicide bomber would take their own life.

Oh, listen to this guy on CNN.....wonder if the reporters now have to go through the NEW government to travel through the country.

We just could NOT be that lucky..........LOL.......could we?

But rest assured, the CNN reporter says that they're "on the look out" for violence that might occur because of the handover!

Heh. Well I had to do a search, I wasn't too sure if he was Lebanese or not. I was at a restaurant yesterday, they had the TV on FOX News, and I have a hearing problem and I wasn't sure what descent the Marine was. :)

I hate to say it, but being the "right" religion didn't save any of the innocent Iraqis killed by them.
