Update:

IRAQ HANDOVER 'TODAY'

The handover of power in Iraq is to be brought forward to today.

A formal announcement will be made later today, Tony Blair said.

The informal announcement was made by Iraq's foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari.

The handover of power to an interim Iraqi government was supposed to take place on June 30.

Mr Zebari said the deteriorating security situation in the country was one of the reasons why the date had been brought forward.

"We will challenge these elements in Iraq, the anti-democratic elements, by even bringing the handover of sovereignty before June 30 as a sign we are ready for it," he said.

He added: "We have made some very good progress in terms of the new security council (in Iraq) and the return of sovereignty to the Iraqi people to take away the level of occupation we have suffered a great deal from.

"There are many Iraqis who are standing up to the challenge. We are here to seek more help and assistance, training and equipment."

The Religious Policeman has become a must read for me.
He doesn't post everyday, and there are times when he's forced to disappear for a while as the Religious Police would dearly love to get their hands on him. But he's really good and has a real sarcastic sense of humor.

I hear there was some excitement over your way @ Victory/BIAP. Everyone OK?

It's been noisy, but we're OK. Glad to see you are too. There has been some more potential noise forecast for tonight. I tell ya, those neighbors of ours...

What's cool about this is that the new Iraqi Army can go into the mosques and places that it wasn't exactly cool for our forces to go and kick some butt.

If I were al-Sadr, I'd be a little nervous about now...

And Saddam? LOOK OUT!!

*God bless & protect the new leaders. mixed feelings seeing Bremer leave with the many armed guards.. I am sure he will not miss that tension, will he?*

Yes, they all need our prayers and God's protection. I just hope they are steadfast! It is going to take a long time for all of the fruits of our labor to be realized. I am just so proud of what we have done. It is really quite extraordinary!

Hey, and glad you got some good shut-eye!

Thanks for the interesting post, Valin.

I've also been reading the Iraqi blogs every day and get a much better perspective of what is really happening in Iraq, as opposed to the typical leftist partisan bias as found here:

In Anger, Ordinary Iraqis Are Joining the Insurgency

AAAGGGGHHHHHH Like your average freeper I'm a real news junkie, but it's getting to the point where I can't read this kind of crap. I don't know maybe it's just me being paranoid but it seems that since GWB got elected the "mainstream" media has gotten a lot more partisan. I know they've always been leftist but lately they've been much more "in your face" about it.

Excellant move. I was wondering if they might not do this, to thwart the islamo-terrorists.

Great strategy. Thanks for the ping Meek!

It's not paranoia, the mainstream media has become more partisan. The reason they are "in your face" is because they are desperate and are going to do anything it takes to get their boy in office.

Also, it's usually spelled "pwned", with the "p" symbolizing a tongue sticking out as well as standing for the "o." As a high school teacher, I have found 1337 sP33cH (That's "leet speech," i.e. "elite speech" for the uninitiated) to be a useful dialect to understand (along with thug-speech, too).

Gotta replay your pic - this is just toooo sweeeeeeet:

So down in the company coffee shop there I am standing with two sweet young thangs talking about F911. "I used to hate Bush before I saw it, now I hate him more than ever," sez one (who I actually like, BTW - at least she has a sense of humor). I pipe up "yeah, he's such a bad guy we just turned over control of Iraq to the new Iraqi government - did you catch the news? No? Two days early. Quite a day for freedom, isnt' it? So how was the movie?"

Some days it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

I just laughed when I heard the news in the night. Smart move on the administration and coalitions part. Bush outsmarted the dems, media and the bad guys again. I just love it.

I listened into a few calls this morning on CSPAM....seems the libs are very upset that this was "done under the cover of secrecy and darkness." Ignoring the fact that it was broad daylight in Iraq at the time, I guess the lib/dems were hoping for more innocent Iraqis to be killed on Wednesday, as planned.
