BAGHDAD, Iraq — An Arab satellite TV network broadcast a videotape Sunday showing a blindfolded man in military fatigues and said he was a U.S. Marine taken hostage in Iraq.

There was no immediate comment from the U.S. military, but the video showed a card identifying the man by a Pakistani name and as an "active duty" Marine. The man had a trimmed moustache and his eyes were covered with a white blindfold.

The Al-Jazeera network said the group claimed it infiltrated a Marine outpost, lured the man outside and abducted him. The station said the group demanded the release of all Iraqis "in occupation jails" or the man would be killed.

The group identified itself as "Islamic Response," the security wing of the "1920 Revolution Brigades" referring to the uprising against the British after World War I.

Oh nothing... I was just... speechless. (sorry if I confused you). I'm a little shocked that one of our Marines was captured... this isn't sitting right.

I just read that Al Jazeera article... this was a "nice touch" from the propaganda masters:

The second captive was named as Yusuf Amjad, an employee of US contractor Kellogg Brown and Root (KBR).

Video sent to Aljazeera included proof of marine's identity

KBR is a subsidiary of the giant Halliburton company which was once headed by US Vice President Dick Cheney.

They'll never get tired of saying that.

If this poor marine loses his head, we will do nothing about it. We will be more concerned that the new govt over there and the abu grahib situation. GWB will give some pathetic excuse or statement. Muslims will say this is not representative of Islam. We will be all outraged at Free Republic. And the story shall continue.

I don't think his name is "Hassoun Wassef Ali", as there is noone by that name in the military name database. I've never not been able to find a service member's name there.

I think it is "wassef a hassoun" or "wassef hassoun". But Wassef A. Hassoun is listed as "not yet serving" and "considering joining." Strange.

Where did you find this military name database? Is it public?

Military.com. It's free, but you have to register.

It's where I look up various names in news articles and also how I detemined who the 4 troops we adopted were as far as branch of service (BoS). Just basic info like branch of service, pay grade, etc.

Every day I see someone call for some sort of computer tracking/identification chip to be implanted in people. Not a good idea in the long run as it just conditions us to think of such things as beneficial.

Hey, would it not be a great idea if EVERYONE had one of these? Just think of all the advantages! The government could keep everyone safe by tracking us ALL THE TIME.

And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.(Revelation 13:16)

Many Marines in Iraq grew moustaches shortly before they were deployed- facial hair is a sign of male strength and virility in the Muslim world.

Okay, I was right about the name I think? Reuters here is saying:

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - An Iraqi militant group issued footage Sunday of a man it said was a captured U.S. Marine and threatened to behead him, further heightening tension ahead of the June 30 formal handover of sovereignty.

Video shown on Qatar-based Arabic channel Al Jazeera showed a blindfolded man in a camouflage uniform, and an apparent Marine Corps identity card that named him as Wassef Ali Hassoun.

Now... is he REALLY a Marine? Military.com has never been wrong before that I've seen.

"universities are refusing to cooperate with the Department of Defense--several schools have flatly refused to allow active-duty military personnel to enroll in classes in Arabic, Pashto, Urdu, or Dari. "

Then federal funds should be cut or totally eliminated.

?????!!!!! My God. I can't believe that. I mean, I don't think you are lying, it's just so incredibly traitorous and evil. I already knew universities are pits of evil, but this is beyond horrible. And our tax money goes to this.

Sometimes I think the only thing that will save this country if people quit paying taxes en masse.

Either the ID is a fake or military.com is somehow wrong. The ID card lists him as an E-4 Corporal.

Yes, and FNC just reported that the military is confirming a US Marine IS missing, but did not confirm if that marine was taken hostage, or if this marine in the news is the one that is missing.

The FNC is now reporting that the US military is confirming that a US marine is "missing" but will not confirm that it was a kidnapping.

For the record, I just went to that site and put in the name of my brother-in-law. 2 records were returned, one denoting him as a military.com member, the other from DoD records. I have to say the DoD record is woefully out of date, because it says he is an E-4, and he is (or was, he just got out) an E-6 or E-7.

I have a plan to capture the guys that are beheading all those hostages. Don't know why the Pentagon hasn't done so already. Implant a tracking chip underneath the skin of all troops, contractors, etc.,

I think that is a GREAT idea. As far as "Big Brother" fears, couldn't the tracking chip be removed when no longer needed?

If it would help save lives and capture terrorists, temporary tracking control makes sense! This War Against Terrorism calls for extraordinary actions. The barbarian terrorists must be stopped.
