6 million production,10 million advertising
So it actually made 7 mill ?
LOL thats funny
Are those figures pre or post production i wonder ?
Also my guess is spiderman 2 will go 200 million for the 5 day weekend. It getting better reviews than the first.
I hate to be the wet blanket but govt checks come out this week.
Back in 1988 here in Austin I was arrested with Mark Weaver and Operation Rescue blockading an abortion clinic to save lives. Why not no the same think for this movie. If we do so we not only save lives but save America from a Kerry Regime.
Not just vapid, but downright insulting, in my opinion. If the same premise were reversed, and a film came out starring two white people putting on black face, the screaming from the professional race-baiting pimps would be deafening.
That's called "Free Advertising for 911"
The poster is the only one who seems to get that this film is a HUGE success. 21 million would be a bonanza for any "documentary-style" film over any weekend, let alone one that opened in only about 880 theaters (vs. major films opening in 3100 - 3700 theaters). If Moore's film doesn't make another dime in U.S. theaters, it is probably already the most successful film of its kind in history. Every conservative I know is talking about it, let alone liberals. Coming out in DVD in Sept. for the election was very smart. I'm amazed at how people's politics or disgust with Moore can make them utterly stupid and unable to see what is actually happening. Wishful statements about Spiderman2 doesn't even vaguely alter the fact that Moore scored on this one.
DO IT!!
So, it dropped off already?
PLease respond to #28.
Frankly, there's no way you can spin any of the numbers for it as disappointing, considering it's a low-budget DOCUMENTARY (well, supposedly a documentary, of course.)
You can't even apply the same standards as a low-budget summer comedy, because even those cost a lot more than 911 did.
Over time the box office will decline and it will plummet massively next weekend, obviously and people will gleefully report that. But from an industry standpoint it's an astonishing financial success already.
And people need to forget all this boycott and protest nonsense. All that is is free publicity for it.

Naw, the advertising was almost all free. The mainstream press over-hyped this movie like it was Abu Graib.
Pounded em here in cincy so bad only 1 protester showed up for Gore with her 2 kids and stayed for 15 minutes then was escorted off the mall property in shame people drive by and either honk ,salute, wave, cuss or give you the finger
Don't get much chance to FReep here in cincy since most are republicans or conservative and alot of independents !

Fahrenheit 9/11: Crying, Laughing, Shouting at the Screen
Moore's Bush polemic hits raw nerve in New York
June 24th, 2004 12:00 PM
Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 opened in select theaters on June 23rd. If the drawn faces of audience members leaving some of the first screenings in New York City are any indication, this film fucks you up. (Hey Fahrenheit marketing people, put that blurb on your poster!) Those people willing to speakmany were dumbstruck and declined to talk, walking off in dazed silenceresponded with intense emotion.
"I cried," said Tom Allsup. "And I cried again."
"People laughed, but were polite," says Sheila Schwid.
"We talked back to the screen," says Casey Krugman.
Or, as one attendee joked, "I laughed, I cried, I wanted the Bush family dead!"
Pundits and critics have had their chance to weigh in, but for the most part those professional culture watchers know whether they're sitting on the left or the right side of the theater before they enter. It's audiences that will ultimately decide whether Moore has succeeded with his latest film. We talked with people as they exited Fahrenheit 9/11 to take their pulses and check their temperatures.
That's a great idea!!!
You're comparing apples to oranges. You have to compare it to 1) other documentaries 2) other films with a similar tiny budget.
Look, wish it were otherwise, but it's a simply astounding financial success. No other way to spin it. Doesn't mean I like it or plan to go see it, but sometimes you have to call it like it is.
