The poster is the only one who seems to get that this film is a HUGE success. 21 million would be a bonanza for any "documentary-style" film over any weekend, let alone one that opened in only about 880 theaters (vs. major films opening in 3100 - 3700 theaters). If Moore's film doesn't make another dime in U.S. theaters, it is probably already the most successful film of its kind in history. Every conservative I know is talking about it, let alone liberals. Coming out in DVD in Sept. for the election was very smart. I'm amazed at how people's politics or disgust with Moore can make them utterly stupid and unable to see what is actually happening. Wishful statements about Spiderman2 doesn't even vaguely alter the fact that Moore scored on this one.
Charles, relax. There's no way anybody but liberals are going to be swayed by this movie in the long run (in time for the election). Moore's timing is stupid not smart, as the film will be thoroughly debunked and then forgotten by the election.
Yes, he's primarily preaching to his idiotic choir. Yes, his "facts" are being taken apart one by one.
But there's no way to spin this into anything but a loss for us.
I think you are over reacting. I don't hear anyone talking about it (and I'm in NY), except for here on FR. We know what percentage of the US population are Dems, any fraction of that adds up to enough of an audience to generate these box office receipts for this.
