It's all in the Koran. If you don't follow the Koran then are you really a Muslim? Attaturk himself saw the need to place government controls over the practice of this cult. There are radical Islamics in Turkey who follow the Saudi form of it quite well --- but then Mohammed was an Arab and he was very intentionally leading people away from the God of Abraham and Jesus.

We didn't have as much of a problem with that as you think...the problem stemmed from the area of deployment and Kurdish fears of genocide. I'm not making accusations, just repeating the Kurds' fears, which do have validity.

This is not sarcasm. Why, in your opinion, would Zarqawi kidnap Turks, when all indications show he could have used far different tactics to strengthen support among the Turkish population? Instead, he runs the very real risk of alienating them with this attempt to strengthen the popular antiwar opinion.

Stupidity is a tempting answer, but not valid in that Zarqawi is politically more sophisticated than that. Syphilus would cause such impairment of judgement...that and complete desperation.

Okay --- thanks for the correction --- first I did spell it that way and went and backspaced thinking the right way looked wrong.

I know Turks and Persians are more moderate people --- but I don't think that moderation comes from Islam but is leftover from their previous cultures which were more tolerant and moderate. Maybe an incomplete conversion from Zoroasterianism to Islam after the Arabs overran and dominated their region and imposed the Arab religion on them, forcing them to follow some Arab self-proclaimed "prophet".

You've got a gaping wound now though..

Here I go repeating myself. When your org was too scared to station troops in northern Iraq during the time of the sanctions, it was the Turks that were stationed there. When Barzani and Talabani needed to travel, they got to do so through Turkey, and using Turkish passports. Hell, if we didn't want the Kurds protected, we wouldn't have hosted your boys at the Lick.

What does that leave? Rumsfeld yanking his toy to his side and growling "Mine!"

Yours it is. Gaping and oozing. And it pisses me off!

Come now, I have not forgotten the games played, and the capitulation to France, over a certain $50 billion dollars in aid, at the very moment the US most needed Turkey to be a solid ally. It was not very long ago at all, was it?

And most of those barbarians have no qualms about using WMD, if they have or can get them.

The first chance they get their hands on a nuclear device, some major city and it popoulation become radiated fodder.

The first chance they get their hands on chemical or biogical that they can deliver in a lethally effective manner, and the body count could be in hundreds or thousands or even tens of thousands.

I've been preaching since 911 that it's the terrorists who are the infidels referred to in the Koran.

You should solicit a position in the MSM of the US then! : )

I know Turkey is a democracy, and except for the bitter post on this thread, have never dissed it.

Why haven't we found these people yet?

If we pave the place and let God sort 'em out, maybe they can start over again....

If this is true, The Zaqarwi (sp) is getting desperate. I'd like to think his space and air is running out. Also, the Turks just got an invitation to participate more fully in NATO, right? Perhaps that is also a factor.

"I, for one, believe that Saudis are the force behind Al Qaeda, and not even trying very hard to hide it."

Agreed. That has never been in doubt. They're like the mad scientist in those old, black and white, "B" (they don't make a "C") horror movies, where the monstor invariably turns on his creator - and kills many innocent byestanders in the process. Some of us have been waiting for this to happen, even as the royal family kept up the status quo.

OK then, $30 billion. What I do remember is being hit up for more cash, and then been refused even after we said yes to the first such demand, at the moment the Turks thought they had us by the balls... I'm pretty sure my recollection of the big picture is accurate.

While I favor Turkey in many ways, I have learned that the current government of Turkey is not to be trusted.

The barbarians will most certainly use whatever weapons they are able to get their hands on.

Not only physical ones, such as the WMDs you mention, but the psychological and religious ones; the political and economic ones; the communication and propaganda ones, and any other parts of our successful culture they will attempt to turn against us.

This is no joke. This is not a test. This is real life. Those folks are out to eliminate Israel and the US and all of civilized culture.

The pacifists of the last century are some of the terrorists most useful allies.

This war is not going to be over this year, or next. It will be going on for at least the next twenty years, but only if we survive that long.

I thought Muslims weren't supposed to kill other Muslims?

Iran and Iraq had at each other for eight years of it.
