Our conversation earlier was about civil law, and the participants of this evil do not qualify for the benefits of civil or and constitutional law and therefore should be killed on sight.
GWB and the justice dept. recognized this early on and created GITMO, but the rest of the planet and many of our own do not see the wisdom of separating terrorists from criminals.
Terrorists can and will terrorize the legal system and the courts with as much success as they have when they are free. I believe that most thinking people can see this coming and know that they must be treated differently.
It may be that horrible mistakes will have to be made in order to convince the nay sayers.
I don't know what it is that makes people so pigheaded, but they will see the light before too long. This war on terror is just beginning.
If by these people you're referring to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and his band of merry men we know exactly where they are. We precision bomb them quite regularly.
We started to reduce their sanctuary in late April but when the going got politically tough, the politicians ordered the Marines to get out of Dodge. They were replaced by a rag tag group of Iraqi sympathizers allowing al-Zarqawi freedom to continue to plan and recruit in the fertile hatred of the old city ghetto.
Had Bush the courage to stand the political heat, al-Zarqawi might still be creating turmoil but with a lot less panache. Bush is reaping the consequences of a knee jerk reaction to Arab politics. Not one "innocent" Iraqi, read Arab or Muslim, life could be taken.
I won't be the least bit surprised, if the inevitable happens and Bush turns down any offer boots-on-the-ground of help from Turkey to ferret out and capture the al-Zarqawi gang.
Seems to me that the bible and Koran can both be misinterpreted. However, the basic facts of the lives of Jesus and Mohammed are not open to interpretation. Jesus turned the other cheek and died on a cross. Mohammed lead armies and converted with the sword. Seems like the two holy books of these religions should be interpreted through the lives of the two founders.

Not a very good statement to have written. Islam is a religion of evil. The teachings of the Koran produce beliefs that lead people to extreme violence. History clearly proves that the preceding statement is correct and to deny it is an outright lie. You have destroyed whatever integrity you might have had as far as I am concerned. With such an attitude, you and others who share your beliefs are going to force us into a fight we do NOT want to be involved in. And, once involved, we are going to finish it.

Well spoken. Now if more Muslims around the world stood up, and said the same thing, LOUDLY, there would be considerably less condemnation of Muslims as a group around the world, and less tolerance (be it of fear or the tacit support from silence) of the terrorist's actions within the Arab countries.
Instead, we see images like that fat Egyption woman having a public orgasm over the destruction of the twin towers, or public celebrations in Fallujah around the burned carcasses of those US contract workers. Honest, decent Muslims need to counter that image with all due haste, and ferret out the vermin hiding in their midst.
They are the only ones that can do it effectively. And grateful nations will thank them.
The Iraqi people deserve to live free like everyone else should be able to do on this earth. Maybe some don't appreciate it and maybe many do. It doesn't matter because what we are doing is the right thing to do and we know it in our hearts. That's all that matters. The people that matter will know who helped them and who didn't. If the loony left can live with themselves for wanting a criminal to live free and kill women and children and grind up their husbands and fathers let them live with it. I know what is right and wrong and that is wrong.

what % of them can find iraq on a map, or at least get close (or find their own state on a map?)? or even have a basic grasp of the political differences between bush and kerry, or have any independent thinking ability at all on political affairs?

Islam really has been hijacked by a very violent minority doing some terrible brainwashing on its members. No level of violence is beyond them, and they are making trouble all over the globe, unlike most terrorist organizations, who generally have a local political and territorial goal, i.e. the ETA, IRA, Farc, etc.
The list of countries where violent islamic minorities are creating trouble crosses the globe...thailand, pakistan, the US, india, russia, most middle eastern countries, spain, as well as most of europe presumably covered in cells awaiting instructions.
I don't see how such a problem is dealt with using kinder, gentler warfare against an enemy so indoctrinated in the use of violence, even suicidal violence, against soft targets to achieve political goals.

That is very fair and it is worth noting that the some christian leaders were at times just absolutely brutal. I have often compared the level of violence done in the name of the catholic church, or christain churches, proportional to the technology of the age, to what is going on with the rise of genocidal variants of islam.
I think the big difference between then and now is that now the radical group has the ability to disrupt events all over the world, access to weapons that kill exponentially more people, and could very easily create serious disruptions in the world economy. Additionally, the powers that be are not simply exterminating them, or expelling them.
A group exhibiting these sorts of behavior against a european government in the middle ages would have found its few remaining survivors expelled. Heck, ethnic minorities were ruthlessly exploited just for economic and ideological reasons, not because they were violent (the expulsion of the jews by edward I, england, for example).
