Why does AFI like that song so much? Judy Garland!
Can we get any heterosexuals onto AFI, please?

Why isn't "This Is Your Life" from "Fight Club" on this list?!?!?! </sarcasm>

I like the songs from the opening credits of the old James Bond movies (i.e. Goldfinger, Thunderball, For your Eyes Only).

How about "Stella by Starlight", or "Laura"?

Gaaaaah. I despise "Over the Rainbow" and all such saccharine vomit-inducers.

What about either "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" or "The Trolley Song" from one of my favorite movies, "Meet Me in St. Louis?"

This is a great list!!! What's not to like?

I am especially pleased with the recognition of "Holiday Inn" as the movie where "White Christmas" first appeared. Most people don't know the song comes from that movie and not the movie that was later made with the same title as the song to capitalize on the song's popularity. "Holiday Inn" is a true classic. I hope this list makes more people go find the movie and watch it.

I cannot resist a shameless plug here. My brother has a really gorgeous song in the Farrelly Brothers film "Kingpin" called "We Should Always Be Together". (I don't think it made the AFI list though).

I am shocked that Every Sperm is Sacred from Monty Python's The Meaning of Life didn't make the list.

That's just not right.

Stayin Alive at number 9 ?????

This appears to be a list of top movie pop songs. To get the real good music you have to include scores, such as Last of the Mohicans, Saving Private Ryan, The Gladiator, etc.

Interestingly, "Over the Rainbow" was edited out of Wizard of Oz several times!:

Over the Rainbow was deleted from the print of The Wizard of Oz three times! After each deletion Arthur Freed would storm into the front office and argue it back into the film. Further opposition came from the publisher, who objected to the "difficult-to-sing" octave leap in the melody on the word "some-where," and also to the simple middle. But Freed and Arlen stood up to the powers-that-be and the song remained, ironically to later receive the Academy Award as the best film song of the year!

Oh by the way AFI, The Sound of Music is at best only the 4th best song from that particular movie, behind Edelweiss, My Favorite Things, and Do Re Me.

Two songs each from The Sound of Music (My Favourite Things at No 64 and Do Re Mi at No 88) and Singin' in the Rain (Make 'Em Laugh at No 49 and Good Morning at No 72) both made the list.

Fer cryin' out loud. He can't even get this right!
It was THREE songs from The Sound of Music. "My Favourite Things" - #64, "Do Re Mi" - #88 and "The Sound of Music" - #10.

And THREE songs from Singin' in the Rain!
"Make 'Em Laugh - #49, "Good Morning" - #72, and "Singin' in the Rain - #3.

Leave it to a Liberal to screw things up!

I love "Zip A Dee Do Dah" from Song of the South, which was in the top 100. Only you can't see the movie. Disney won't release it in the US. Not PC. Seems like they could tack some sort of apology or explanation at the front and just let it go. The Brer Rabbit, Brer Bear and Brer Fox stories are classics.
