WASHINGTON -- George Washington, father of the nation, is about to undergo a makeover of historic proportions that many a modern American might envy.
In an effort to humanize the first president's iconic "marble man'' image, Jeffrey Schwartz, an anthropology professor at the University of Pittsburgh, has been commissioned to employ the latest scientific techniques on statues, portraits and a life mask of Washington from late in his life, which were produced after he became famous, to create life-sized models of Washington as a younger man.
Schwartz will work with a team of computer experts at Arizona State University to develop three figures of Washington -- as the nation's first president at age 57, as Revolutionary War general at age 45, and as a young surveyor at age 19. Washington died when he was 67.

Well Willie, I think this is an interesting effort, but it goes all for naught if our schools don't inform students who he was and why he was so important for our nation.
I have said it a number of times on this forum. Our founding fathers history goes wanting, while Martin Leuther King and Rosa Parks are healded as the most important figures in our nation's history.
I attended a sixth-grade graduation for my niece. On the side of the room was an 18" x 10 foot picture painted by the school children. There was an 18" tall painting of MLK on it, presenting him from chin to eye brow, about 2.5 feet wide. There was a large painting of Rosa Parks on it that was about 2/3rds the size of the MLK offering. Then there was a man on a horse that was about 12" high, almost an after thought that was Washington.
There it is in a nutshell. MLK was huge. Rosa Parks was very important. Then there was once a man name Washington, ho hum.
Jefferson didn't appear on the mural. Neither did any of the other founding fathers. The U.S. constitution wasn't depicted either.
If this school meeting room was any indication of where we are headed as a nation, I pitty our children.

Now why would schools include "dead, white guys" in their curriculum? Its sexist and rascist afterall. (sarcasm on).
Only six years ago, I was being taught about MLK and Rosa Parks in first grade. This was before we had even heard of Ben Franklin or The Constitution.

If I read your post correctly, you'll be starting eighth grade this year. Stay around, and learn what you won't learn in public school if that is where you are.
Two weeks ago I attended a birthday party for my grandson. He showed me an essay he was told to write about our country's history. He got a very good mark for it. It was all about equal rights and how unfair it was that the "rich old men" had so much, and the poor had so little.
I asked my son-in-law if he knew what his son was learning in school. In a disgusted voice, he said that they were trying to destroy our nation's founding fathers.
A youngish woman who was present said to my grandson in a voice sweet enough to give everyone present a bad case of zits, that well, of course, it was only right because everyone is born equal and we don't treat them equally.
SO, the question is: Does anyone know of a book for a 13 year old about our founding fathers? One that represents some patriotism, of course.

I don't think you will be disappointed. Books that should be part of a Classical Christian education - including authentic histories of America, American historical figures, etc. may be found through Veritas.

I was a Republican at your age and campaigned for Richard Nixon against John Kennedy,in 1960. I was 13 at the time.
He lost, but I still stayed on the Republican side.

I couldn't have said it better myself. What is the purpose of this? How can it possibly improve our understanding of history to know what he looked like when he chopped down the cherry tree? (I know that's a myth.)
