Only six years ago, I was being taught about MLK and Rosa Parks in first grade. This was before we had even heard of Ben Franklin or The Constitution.

If I read your post correctly, you'll be starting eighth grade this year. Stay around, and learn what you won't learn in public school if that is where you are.

You are not alone in what you think of JFKerry.

I was a Republican at your age and campaigned for Richard Nixon against John Kennedy,in 1960. I was 13 at the time.
He lost, but I still stayed on the Republican side.

I applaude your resolve! We need you young folks.

Welcome to FreeRepublic, DLK. This place is full of great folks many who are experts on our wonderful country. I like to think it is a reflection of President Reagan's Shining City on a Hill.

I met with our family for a Father's day lunch this afternoon. My 12 year old niece and I had a long discussion about Kerry vs. Bush and Liberalism/Communism vs. Conservatism after she asked me if I thought Kerry would win. She mentioned she and her friends like to debate politics and that most of them are Republicans. I believe this bodes well for the future.

Kitkat, at The Federalist is a listing called the Patriot's Library. There is a section for children with titles listed by age group. I'm sure some of the adult books would be appropriate for him and the descriptions should help you pick those out. Also, The Federalist newsletter would be excellent reading for your whole family. You can download HTML or Adobe versions of current and archived issues or have them emailed to you, free. Your privacy will be protected--they do not share your information for any reason.
