Female Ky. School Workers See Strip Show
AP ^

COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- When Covington schools Superintendent Jack Moreland saw an advertisement for a Chippendales show, he thought it would be a good morale booster for his female employees. So he shelled out $420 to send 20 female staff members to a Chippendales show to see buff men strip off most of their clothing.

It worked, but it also raised the ire of at least one person, who wrote an anonymous letter to the state Office of Education Accountability accusing Moreland of using school-district funds to pay for the strip show.

Moreland said he spent $420 of his own money for the show - and faxed his personal credit-card receipt to investigators.

"I did it in fun, and they went in fun, and I don't think there was any harm done," he said.

Bryan Jones, a lawyer for the Office of Education Accountability, said he couldn't confirm or deny whether his office looked into a complaint.

The women who attended the show said they enjoyed it.

"We just laughed and laughed and laughed," said Jena Meehan, the superintendent's secretary. "It was a spectacle, to be sure, and to have all of us there was even funnier."

Chippendales is a high-class male revue that became popular in the 1980s. Well-muscled young men wearing bow-ties and bare chests strip to scanty undies for female audiences.

Moreland is the former president of the Council for Better Education, the superintendents group that brought the historic lawsuit that resulted in the Kentucky Education Reform Act of 1990 and its revolutionary reform of Kentucky's public schools.

That's not a bad answer. And certainly I'm aware that King David danced naked before all of Israel when filled with the Spirit.

I think there is a big difference between the atmosphere and the context between Chippendales and King David. So yes we will have to disagree on how terrible that threat is.

They might make inappropriate comments. They may discuss sex either in the classroom or with students outside the classroom and my concern there is the projection of values that aren't biblically based. They might introduce inappropriate materials. They might do something as stupid as bringing bananas to class and having the students put condemns on them and then teaching the kids that pre-marital sex is normal and not wrong and that the condemn is sufficient protection.

ROFL!! While I might someday attend a Chippendales show, there is no chance on earth I would do any of these things. Do you suspect that all teachers who have done these things have been to Chippendales?

I always ask myself, "What would Brian Boitano do if he were here right now?"

Yes, yes, yes, I see.
Girls just want to have fun
That’s all they really want
Some fun
When the working day is done
Girls--they want to have fun
Oh girls just want to have fun,
They want to have fun,
They want to have fun...

Unless you are married and have children whom you love,
Well, really, what's it to you ?

What are the odds that one of the female employees got a private strip show after the event by the Super??

Probably zero. Why? Does the Super look like a Chippendale dancer?

Of all the things bringing the morality of our youth downward, this is the LEAST threatening thing I have seen in a long time. In fact, it just looks like light-hearted fun. No one brought the kids, showed pics to the kids, told stories to the kids - it was a bunch of ADULTS having their own fun. The point of teaching children morality, IMHO, is so that as adults they can tell the difference between a fun night out and utter depravity, so that they can make decisions that don't harm them as adults. These women are already adults, and didn't do anything harmful. No one is burning in hell for giggling at overly pumped guys in speedos.

Ah, the Massachusetts Morality Test ...

How reassuring ...

I have been trying for months now to see if you have any sense of humor. I shall now wrap up my investigation and conclude that no, you do not. Your poor wife.

feels it is their right to pass this information in order to bring damage to this person.

No, you can't go around in some relativistic way (perhaps that's the way you live your life) changing definitions of words as you please. The above phrase describes a "gossiper." A busybody is someone who has nothing better to do than to snoop into the drama of other folks. It's a "detective" type of person; or an interpreter of the people she is watching. Somebody can be a busybody and never say a word to anyone else.

that has no impact on them

Ah, now this is your telling qualifier. This is what you're really getting at. You think folks should 100% ignore anybody that doesn't have anything to do w/them.

How long have you been preaching this "gospel" of yours to every "Neighborhood Watch" group? I suppose you write letters to the editor, too, about all these homely busybodies who have nothing better to do than to watch their neighbors' homes in the interest of protecting them?

I've got news for you. We live in a moral ecosystem. The actions of one person effect another, albeit often indirectly and perhaps only eventually, even if they don't impact me right away.

Only if she goes into class and gives a full report of it - some people can keep their personal activities separate from their professional ones.

Sludge seeps out and pollutes the environment.

You can tell when someone loves their children.

Yes, because while you are both depraved, the teacher next door had the good sense to be discreet about it. Therefore you are fired because of your depravity AND your poor judgement. While the teacher next door is not.

Nice morals ya got there. The highest moral plane is therefore, don't get caught.

which bible? Mine? my bible was cool with multiple wives and having kids with female slaves if your wife couldn't do the job. not to mention having slaves in the first place. hope they aren't teaching THAT!

if they make inappropriate comments, deal with THAT, not what they might do.

again, I could SWEAR good Christians didn't judge others. BUying from Hustler is not depraved - it's fun. That you would tell Deanna to be someone she is not in order to satisfy your moral demands is, to me, the far more immoral action.

"Of course not. If people thought that public funds were being used to buy this guy a house, wouldn't it be an issue too?"

A house, not approved by the compensation committee would be misuse of funds. But the only difference between a Christmas party and a Chippendale party is the type of party.

Please report illegal activity. If a teacher's behavior isn't of your standard, remove your child and keep your mouth shut.

Let's apply this standard of yours in a parallel manner to FREEPIN. If I was to adopt your standard, I guess I could say to you:

Please report verbally abusive activity to the moderator. If a poster's comments isn't of your standard, remove your eyes and keep your keyboard silent.

Ok then, how about he buys them tupperware at a tupperware party with public funds? Is THAT ok?

The problem is money going to where it is not authorized to go. Some places do authorize Christmas parties.

I was responding to someone putting forth a new absolute--"whatever is legal is moral."

Strawman. No one was making that argument.

LOL!! Yes, I would notice the sewage, but my stupid neighbors who cannot figure things out will just drink it on up, wouldn't they? Where would they all be if it weren't for the all wonderful ME to explain things to them?

Where would all those black people be, if it weren't for the Dems who are looking out for them?

but you can't ask the world to live by your standards.

If this statement was true, then nobody could ever protest vs. wars; nobody could ever write a letter to the editor; nobody could ever preach against racism; nobody could say there was any inherent value in "diversity"; nobody could say there was any value in "individual rights."

you have a funny definition of an absolute standard - I say i don't want appropriate behavior for everyone defined by just one or two people, and that's an absolute standard? sounds like a guideline to me.

You can try to soften your absolutes all you want w/whatever terminology you label them; the fact is, you don't budge from them. Which means they are absolutes to you.

The fact is, we all expose other to our standards, values, guidelines (whatever you want to call them) all the time. Sometimes we use placards. Sometimes we use words. And sometimes we use lifestyles.

Chippendales show? The same women that would go to one of those are the same types you'd see on Jerry Springer shows.

I thought Chippendales went out with Disco.

It's just a sluty thing, sugar coated and all dressed up to look like some kind of a high end show, while the over weight and lonely gawk like a bunch of school girls....Hehehe.
