COVINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- When Covington schools Superintendent Jack Moreland saw an advertisement for a Chippendales show, he thought it would be a good morale booster for his female employees. So he shelled out $420 to send 20 female staff members to a Chippendales show to see buff men strip off most of their clothing.
It worked, but it also raised the ire of at least one person, who wrote an anonymous letter to the state Office of Education Accountability accusing Moreland of using school-district funds to pay for the strip show.
Moreland said he spent $420 of his own money for the show - and faxed his personal credit-card receipt to investigators.
"I did it in fun, and they went in fun, and I don't think there was any harm done," he said.
Bryan Jones, a lawyer for the Office of Education Accountability, said he couldn't confirm or deny whether his office looked into a complaint.
The women who attended the show said they enjoyed it.
"We just laughed and laughed and laughed," said Jena Meehan, the superintendent's secretary. "It was a spectacle, to be sure, and to have all of us there was even funnier."
Chippendales is a high-class male revue that became popular in the 1980s. Well-muscled young men wearing bow-ties and bare chests strip to scanty undies for female audiences.
Moreland is the former president of the Council for Better Education, the superintendents group that brought the historic lawsuit that resulted in the Kentucky Education Reform Act of 1990 and its revolutionary reform of Kentucky's public schools.
seems like fast women and beautiful horses
Thanks. I saw that skit several times. Farley and Swayze were wonderful indeed, especially acting girlish waiting for the decision of the judges.
so true--i agree
So what? Men lust after women and women lust after men all the time - that's called human nature. He didn't send them out to buy some gigolos for the night. THAT would be morally reprehensible. ANd more expensive...
Thanks for your correction - you are just a bit late.... already been corrected...
Perhaps not overtly harmful, however it is clear that these adults do not know the difference between a fun night out and depravity because they chose depravity. Not utter depravity but depravity none the less.
While they may not have gone back to class and made a full report, thereby directly harming the kids, it reflects on their value system and whether they are competent to be good role models for the kids.
To imply as you did in an earlier posts that because parents can't know a person's entire morality, that they should not insist that those involved in children's education uphold at least in public a level of decency is wrong. We may not be able to perfectly control the morality that is taught in public schools to our young, but to suggest that we should abandon all hope of trying and all standards is an extreme position. We should not have to pull our kids out of public schools in order to insist on having teachers with some level of decency.
There is a lot about "human nature" that God flat out condemns. That we've inherited a sin nature due to Adam's rebellion does not justify the behavior.
This Superintendent is not morally fit to be leading the school systems and the teacher's that accepted his invitation are not morally fit to be teaching our young.
Have you ever SEEN the atmosphere at male strip clubs? It's social, jovial, full of laughter. They don't get fully naked (cuz that would look even funnier :) ) - dancing men in speedos and bow ties are funny, NOT sexy. Comparing attending that with having sex with students or selling their bodies for money is utterly out of line with reality.
Yup, and thank goodness it wasn't a CFNM party, lol! And if one does not know what that is.... just google it ;)
it would be, if it was in public as opposed to a privately owned establishment AND if they actually got naked which they don't. so no, he wasn't.
"I can't believe this is an AP article."

Why is that...?
FWIW-
Not that I should be surprised by this by now, but the language in the article is totally vapid and unprofessional. You wouldn't expect an 'unbiased' and 'objective' news source to call the Chippendales 'high class' or use the phrase 'scanty undies.' Simply saying 'the women went to Chippendales, a nude male revue' would have sufficed.
only the general public with an ID proving they are an adult, and money for a cover charge. And once they are an adult, they get to make their own decisions. ANd having walked in the door, they have. therefore, no one exposed to this was surprised about it. Not my idea of public.
And Baywatch isn't technically a flash show, like my cousin calls it. But we know it is.
Sure it is, but it isn't nudity, and neither is Chippendale's.
Personally, I prefer the 'Thunder From Down Under' all male revue...LOL! They do not accept tips and the show is classier (if there is such a thing).
Perhaps not, but appropriate termed a "public place" in the English language since at least the 17th century.
what about if he has sex with his wife? that still involves seeing women sexually. The question is - does he bring it to the office? If not, what on earth does it matter?
i'm all for moral behavior, but people are way too quick to say what others should be allowed to do when it doesn't affect ANYONE
"And I'm in charge of your kids' education. At least I didn't tell them to pray!"
to send 20 female staff members to a Chippendales show .....
I'll bet the show was across the river in Sincinnati
A friend I went to high school with is a guidance counselor in the public schools. He helped my daughter a lot in school this year as she scrambled to get ready to go to college next year. A few times over the years he's come to a party at our house and a couple of those times he most certainly drank one too many but never did this in front of any students. Should he be disqualified from being a counselor because soem people consider overimbibing immoral (heck, some people consider drinking even one beer immoral)?
And I do think the superintendent is an idiot.
