THE HIP-HOP VOTE -- The Rapper Road To Armageddon?
ICONOCLAST ^ | By Hans Zeiger

America's finest advocate for "social justice" and "equality" is none other than Eminem, the popularly revolting rapper whose recent lyrics glorify such things as drugs, murder, rape, and other sorts of atrocious pastimes. Eminem is the quintessential homophobe and the quintessential chauvinist, but he is quite celebrated in the corner of the Left that had him as the keynote speaker for last weekend's Detroit Hip-Hop Summit, an effort to register young gangsta's to vote.

Eminem himself is not a voter, for he is a convicted felon. But that did not deter the organizer of the Hip-Hop Summit, Russell Simmons. Simmons created the quarter billion dollar Def Jam Records empire, built the rap music industry and helped make it into a depraved culture of its own. In 2001, Simmons founded the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network to harness "the cultural relevance of Hip-Hop music to serve as a catalyst for education advocacy and other societal concerns fundamental to the well-being of at-risk youth."

Ironic about the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network is that at-risk youth are at risk precisely because they listen to Eminem's music and follow the twisted social thinking of Russell Simmons. Of course, at-risk youth have other negative influences, but it certainly doesn't help things when Eminem is chanting, "B**tch, I'ma kill you, you don't wanna f*** with me!" ....

Fair enough, too.

I guess I shouldn't say it but I had an uncle who raised hogs on his farm up in Iowa. He told us that only city kids called hogs, pigs. I wonder what he was getting at?

It pays to have a sense of humor about such things.

Thanks for the Bubba link. I do not think I'll be visiting that web site anymore though.

Time for a late supper.

Ok folks. One of my soldiers would like me to send him hiphop music. Unfortunately (nah fortunately), I don't know anything about that genre. Any recommendations????

Pat Boone did a wretched album of heavy metal covers some years ago called "In a Metal Mood". Perhaps he could do the same thing with rap; "In a Gangsta' Groove".

He told us that only city kids called hogs, pigs.

I don't know.. my people are ranchers and raised cattle
and everyone listened to that damned country pig farmer music.

Made me sick.

I ran from that lifestyle as quickly as I could.

Now, later in life, I find myself tending back toward that life.

But not the pig farmer music!

Christian groups would do a lot better if they honed their craft, concentrated on musical and lyrical integrity, dropped the smarm level by at least one order of magnitude...

If they can't do that and still sing reverently about their God, then maybe they should admit that pop music is not a good format for such an endeavor and try to follow in the steps of the baroque and classical masters.

" The only things worse than gangstarappas are the white women who sleep with / date them "

Should have said THE WOMEN who sleep with / date them , and not singled out white women as it comes across as racist .
I am white , married to a Japanese woman , but if I were single I would certainly date a black woman . Unfortunately , only a tiny percentage of black women will date white guys . Or has that changed since I left the USA 18 years ago ?

Just cause I like to be devil's advocate sometimes...by your definition, any music that contains no lyrics at all is not music, because there is no vocalized harmony/melody. Can't one argue that in rap, it's just rhyming/vocalizing/yelling/screaming/whatever words over music that already has harmony & melody in the background? I personally listen to some rap music, and most of the better beats also have a good track layed down in the background.

I just object to country music in general.

Country is the Special Olympics of music.

Most folks here are CLEARLY not hip hop fans. For one, some folks are conflating rap with hip hop and there's a difference. Above someone read that rap is not sung (hip hop can be sung) so it's only 1/3 music. Does European classical music also get kicked to the curb, using this logic? Also, gangsta rap (though supreme right now -- bought overwhelming by WHITES by the way) is not the totality of hip hop. Learn some stuff first, because some of you are simply EMBARRASSING yourselves here. For the person above who asked for hip hop recommendations: Outkast, Missy Elliott, Kanye West, Mos Def, The Roots (hip hop band plays their own instruments), Talib Kweli, Sean Paul. And of course, any high-profile rapper pre-1992. Here are some websites done by hip hop fans, who are also libertarian or conservative.
