My daughter and I had a discussion about his addiction to pain killers. I refuse to take them because I am so afraid of addiction. Her step-mother was bashing Rush about this. I just pointed out that at least Rush was still able to work - while I am not.
Yes, opiate addiction is never cured because opiates alter the serotonin level in the brain. It takes many years to balance. My mother had to take pills that would make you an addict with the first one. That's what is out there. Addictive personality or not, you want the next one. I took 1/2 of one for leg pain after climbing around all day and I was completely stoned. I did not drive. I drank a lot of water. When my mother went to the hospital for intestinal blockage, I told the surgeon to get her off of the drugs. It worked. She has less pain than when she was on drugs, and also takes Vioxx.
I think that Rush has realized that he can no longer live with the lie of that marriage. He has supported her and her kids for ten years. He took drugs to get away from something and it wasn't his radio show.

No one has heard anything from Marta yet. All that we have heard from the source is they are getting divorced. Rush has said many times he is a hard man to be married to. Don't dump on Marta just because the Partisan Press uses her to dump on Rush.

I'll have to admit I liked Rush better when he was the little guy doing the "Rush to Excellence" tour and actually meeting the little people. Still, I'm pulling for him and hope he straightens out his personal life.
I just remember Rush being very non-specific about his weight loss strategy. He certainly didn't take up aerobics with Marta -- at least not as far as I'm aware.

Ol' Rush is a national treasure. I certainly don't want his ship to sink over this.
The Internet was indeed up and running then, I was active from early 90's on, first on Prodigy, then CompuServe. Lived through the first of the two Clinton regimes only because there was a place to go to acquire some sanity. This was before we had FR, of course.

Opiates don't suppress an appetite. They dry out the intestinal tract mucous membranes after long-term usage. My mom was a victim of them.
