Yesterday Brit compared the coverage in various papers. The NYT was doing the worst job - having the least amount of coverage on the front page.

The woman blew a kiss to Reagan, hers was a very touching farewell.

Found the transcript:

ROSTIK DENENBURG, HAD CHANCE ENCOUNTER WITH REAGAN: Good morning.

HEMMER: How did you recognize the president that day?

DENENBURG: My grandfather and I actually recognized him at the same time. We saw him walking through the park in L.A., and we came up and we greeted him. We shook his hand.

HEMMER: What did you say to him?

DENENBURG: We thanked him for what he did, for the Soviet Union. Myself and my grandfather are both immigrants from the Soviet Union, and he was one of the key figures responsible for destroying communism and the Cold War, and making it possible for us to immigrate to the United States.

HEMMER: What did he say to you and your grandfather?

DENENBURG: When we congratulated him, he said, "It's my job."

HEMMER: Now, Rostik, did you recognize him first or did your grandfather do that?

DENENBURG: I'd like to say it was simultaneous, but my grandfather did first, because he's seen him many more times, obviously.

HEMMER: Sure. How did the Secret Service react? I can't imagine they were too far away from that location.

DENENBURG: They were right by Mr. Reagan. And, in fact, they inspected the camera right before we shot the picture to make sure it was a camera.

HEMMER: Wow! Where's that photo today, Rostik?

DENENBURG: The photo's hanging on my wall, actually.

HEMMER: There for safekeeping. How did your family view Ronald Reagan at that point?

DENENBURG: As a hero, a great man and a great American.

HEMMER: And how did the news affect you this weekend, Rostik?

DENENBURG: It was definitely a very sad occurrence. However, we must celebrate this man's long life, and we must celebrate the things he did for the world, for the United States and for the Soviet Union.

HEMMER: Rostik, thanks for sharing. Rostik Denenburg from Detroit, Michigan, now a medical student at the University of Toledo in northwestern, Ohio, taking us back to 1977, and we remember that picture today seven years later. Thank you, Rostik.

DENENBURG: Thank you.

I remember the Contra's training near us during basic at Benning in '82; we never talked to them, but would see them marching by occasionally at the wee hours of the morning during PT.

that must have been something to have watched....our military is so impressive, really. As I have watched the changing of the guard around President Reagan's coffin, each time I am in awe.

Liberal lover Brian Lamb is on C-span now, taking phone calls. Someone asked about Clinton's not speaking at the funeral, considering that we're about to endure weeks of 24/7 flogging of his book, so why should Clinton even think of thrusting himself into Reagan's funeral, and Lamb insisted that he hadn't heard one word that Clinton was upset or angry. Why don't I think Lamb is telling the truth???

Cut the NYT's a break....they have more important things to cover.....

The responsibilty of reporting "all of the NON-NEWS fit to print" day after day after day after day is an overwhelming responsibility.

(she says with a sarcastic edge)

JFK had time to order a stand down of US airpower that was supposed to protect the invasion at the Bay of Pigs. That killed many freedom fighters and condemned Cuba to decades of poverty and tyranny.

Can anyone recommend the best network or cable channel to tape it from? I've heard FOX has stunk with the coverage, so I'm leery about taping it from them.

The Slimes' coverage has been absolutely disgraceful.

They devoted more front page space to the Ray Charles obituary article (3 columns) than the Reagan obituary article (1 column). They have put a news analysis hit piece on the Reagan legacy masquerading as news on their front page today and gossip about which Reagan appointees weren't being invited to the funeral masquerading as news on their front page yesterday... instead of a "just-the-facts" article about the funeral ceremonies. The pictures they have chosen for their front page have usually been group shots, depersonalizing the event. Their editorials and op-ed columnists (especially Krugman) have been disgraceful, attacking the Reagan legacy before he is in his grave. And they are blatantly using their editorials and "news" articles to draw parallels between President Reagan and Senator Kerry.

The Old Grey Whore should just admit they hate President Reagan and are cynically using his legacy to support the candidacy of a Senator who hated him and get it over with.

BTW -- C-Span's off of the Rotunda coverage.

Looked like aside from the NY/LA Slimes, most major papers were fairly respectful...

I hate to admit I've been watching CSPAM....they've been showing most all of the coverage and with no mouth pieces.
