LIVE THREAD--Reagan State Funeral Ceremony: Lying in State at the Rotunda (6/11/04)

Well, I overslept a bit and missed the early parts but tuned in around 11:30. Just beautiful. Poppy got me crying. I'm going to keep it on Cspan all day so I'll see what I missed ... right now they are playing LBJ's funeral. Hmmmm. The hairdos are - well - different. LOL. Blast from the past. Leontyne Price is singing now!
Slick was his usual crass self. Hitlery was too. Payback will be hell IMO.
Nancy broke my heart as usual. Michael and Patti did too. Little Ron - no comment.
Not to be morbid, but do you think that Nancy would be able to open the casket on the ride to Cali so that she could see and talk to Ronnie in these last few hours ? I know that I would want to if it were my loved one ( if possible ).
I can't believe he's gone, I'll miss him so.
Did you see her blow a kiss, too? And she waved several times...the crowd was applauding and some were crying, and Nancy gave a little shake of her head as she turned to go into the plane...I'm sure she was thinking how everyone loved "Ronnie", how delighted he is to be seeing this from the "other side" and that she's not alone here, even without him...she has been so strong, and I pray she'll be able to bear up in the quiet time to come. She is a great lady.
LOL. I'm proud of ya. :) Hope lots of people did the same. LOL. If I were not afraid the sale would be recorded in overall sales figures but not the refund, I'd be tempted to buy a copy myself just for the pleasure of returning it. LOL
I've been away from computer getting some things done but kept tv on for most part. I distinctly heard Chris Wallace on Fox out in California describe what "we" will see at tonight's services so apparently the public once again is invited to view the final event.
I do know one thing he said is the casket will be carried past the piece of the Berlin Wall. Also "Amazing Grace" by a lone bagpipe...
You'd sure think so! After the plane left California, they replayed those scenes. Guess, I'll just have to wait. I knew I'd miss most of today's services while at the hospital, but considering the channels I had to choose from, perhaps the anethesia was the best answer! :)
FWIW, MY take of Hillary's glumness, as she sits there, is thatthe realization HAS to creep up on her inner being somewheres that there's NO WAY she'll ever get into the WH..
Yes, Prairie, it's a change--they were not going to broadcast it but now are, starting (on FOX, at least) at 7:30 eastern time.
I do that every chance I get :)
Andrew Denton: What about Ronald Reagan? Was he a simple man, as he appeared?
Helen Thomas: Nothing I don't think he was very simple. I think that he was He certainly had deeply conservative convictions by the time he became President He really started out as a Democrat. He had been head of the Screen Actors Guild president of it six times. And, er, I guess, in those days he would have been considered fairly liberal. But he really swung to the right. Not as right as this President, but certainly conservative.
And, er, he he liked being liked. And, er, the American people certainly moved with him. I think there was a Reagan revolution. He did turn our country to the right where it's been ever since.
Then she told MSNBC (just this week) that by today's standards, Ronald Reagan wouldn't be considered a conservative. So....to her, he didn't start out conservative, wouldn't be today, but was briefly in the 1980's.. like it was some unexplained abberation which took the country by storm inexplicably. She also forgets, using her own logic, that being a democrat prior to 1980 was different than being a democrat now. What a nut.
I agree, none come to mind at least.
I'm a Local 80 grip, let me know if I can help.
It was as if God, Himself, sung Amazing Grace.
I was also wondering ... was GW at Andrews ???
Thanks for the news. Someone in the high hundreds of this thread made mention of that. I was going off that. I'm glad that that wasn't the case. So nice that C-SPAN showed restraint.
They are? Great! I won't be home.. will set the TV now. Thank you for bringing it up!
The one to get is titled "Ellis Island". It is superb.
Ill though she is, Lady Thatcher came to America, went to the Rotunda and the funeral, and is flying with Nancy to California to attend the last funeral service. God bless Lady Thatcher.
If it's ANY consolation to you, I set the VCR this morning on extended play, so I'd make sure to get it all.put in a tape, but forgot to rewind..so, I got ZILCH..I have to do it again, but think I'll tape C-span..If you find out what time they're agonna replay it..ping me, I'll be out int he early evening..thanks..
