NO--it WILL be televised!!!! FOX starts coverage at 7:30 Eastern, and I bet the other stations will be there too. Originally they were not going to televise it, but now they are.

Set your VCR!

The military chooses groups of people for details such as funerals, weddings, ceremonies, etc. They train and train and train.........hard work. Very rewarding.

I remember when it was time for Nixon to be in repose at the Nixon Library they asked for volunteers who would want to honor Nixon. Many did.

I completely agree with you re: Ann Gerhart. I bought her book, read the first chapter, and returned it to Borders. And she couldn't finish the day without heaping praise on he that shall not be named!

I'm so glad they decided to share this with all of us!

Thanks for those details. Is the private ceremony now going to be shown? Is that a change from what was originally planned? Prairie

I was in my early 20's then. I was a product of the times (grew up in the 60's, 70's) and had bought it. I didn't participate by voting, so I was never one to actually complain about who was in office-I just remember hearing all the negative press about Pres Reagan. Now I know he was a great man. His passing is especially poignant because my own late father suffered from dementia, and I understand how hard it is to have them slip away. Pres Bush was very eloquent and accurate in his eulogy when he touched upon the subject. Brought me to tears (for the umpteenth time this week).

Re #280, #283:

Howdy ! :^D

Sorry I was so slow replying. After I 'checked in' here, I pretty much left the computer alone until the service was almost over. Very, very great service I thought ..... would have been better if they hadn't shown clintoon's smirking face and hitlery looking like she was about to fall asleep or something.

Playin' FR catchup now.

Does anyone happen to know what time the burial service will air? I may have to tape it and don't want to miss it. Thanks!

You sure saw a different look on hillary's face then my daughter and I saw -- everytime I saw her she was scowling! We went to Don Pablo's for lunch and the people behind us were talking about how her and Bill looked mad especially when Pres Bush was talking.

I couldn't agree more. But it strikes me how sad and possibly bitter she may be to come full face with what love of freedom, ones country and spouse mean.

So many legends are in their last years. sigh

I don't think that many in the current Hollywood crop are up to taking their places.

Doris Kearns Goodwin (Dem swine) is already starting to criticize the service. She says it was unbelievable that Clinton and Carter weren't allowed to speak.

Sheesh. Why doesn't the HISTORIAN look at HISTORICAL precedent? Former Presidents Carter, Ford and Bush didn't speak at President Nixon's funeral. Of the living presidents, only the sitting President Clinton did. President Ford was only Nixon's veep for a few years. President George H.W. Bush was veep for two full terms.

Did she cite something about the Eisnhower, LBJ or Kennedy funerals that we don't know about? IIRC, Kenedy's funeral was Catholic and had few eulogists other than the Cardinal.

Tynan's become a tad "overexposed" especially in the NYC area..he sings America the Beautiful often at Yankee Stadium..it's almost like "typecasting" if you get my gist, and I'm not criticizing, BTW..The BEST EVER use of his magnificent voice was in one of the tributes to the FDNY after 9/ll..at the end of the program, they showed the pictures of all the Firemen who died in the WTC, with the background music of Tynan's "Danny Boy"...I wept continuously..

"I wasn't old enought to vote for Reagan either time, and my family wasn't much "into" politics. But I've been struck, too, by how similar the two men are with their determination to do what is "right", their faith, how much they got criticized, and so on."

See #3528-I know what you mean.

I think it fitting that we engrave for all time the closing words of Margaret Thatcher -

We have one beacon to guide us that Ronald Reagan never had. We have his example. Let us give thanks today for a life that achieved so much for all of God's children.

PPSSSSTTTT--Speaking of Borders--there's a vast Right Wing Conspiracy to cover any Hillary or Bill books, or those that trash the Pres., whenever you go into a booksotre or the book section of other stores. Simply place another book--a positive or conservative one--over the "bad" book.

A fringe group also takes the books to different parts of the store; for example, Hillary's by the antacids, Bill's by the toilet seats (when his book comes out).

Another fringe group also hides/covers liberal magazines.

Pass it on! :-)
