I don't want to seem irreverent, of course, but you know what song I'd like to see performed, either in the Cathedral, or perhaps better, in a departure ceremony at Andrews AFB?

California, Here I Come. It was a favorite of President Reagan's (or at least I assume it was; it was played repeatedly at the GOP Conventions of 1980 and 1984). An uplifting, even cheerful, song would be an appropriate end to a week of mourning.

The tributes by Lady Thatcher, Bush the Elder, and Bush the Younger show that there is much that Reagan's example can teach this nation.

Yeah, my dad died in 79, he would have LOVED Ronnie as President. My dad had the "honor" of living under both Stalin and Hitler. He was liberated by --- General Patton.

Nice touch. I'll always remember Reagan and Gorbachev walking through Red Square at the end of this term. The people of Russia loved the Gipper as well.

Ya know, Ronald Reagan made it ok to love America again - one of the things to love about America is what we are doing now. Think about it, Don-o, and ignore the comments you don't want to deal with.

I loved the Bible verse he used about him "seeing through a glass darkly, but no[w] face to face"

I Corinthians 13:12 - It's even more beautiful in context.

9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Fox News had originally reported that a Muslim imam was scheduled to speak. Did I miss him?

I feel exactly the same way and it is how we have operated all of our live threads.

If we want a memorial thread, then we should set up the ground rules right up front. A memorial thread would be a thread where we would not make negative comments about anyone and where we would feel comfortable, for instance, passing it along to the Reagan Library.

Personally, I think it would be a boring thread and I'd choose to join the "live" thread every time. I'm not demeaning anyone and understand that everyone has different opinions on what these threads should entail, but I don't think it's fair to change what has been SOP for at least 6 years.
