That would make sense as to why I didn't see any of what has been referenced here on the thread. I still haven't read the information you sent. I think I got food poisoning from Burger King last night.
State Dept. Understated Terrorism Attacks
Jun 10, 2004
By BARRY SCHWEID
WASHINGTON (AP) - The State Department acknowledged Thursday it was wrong in reporting terrorism declined worldwide last year, a finding used to boost one of President Bush's chief foreign policy claims - success in countering terror.
Instead, both the number of incidents and the toll in victims increased sharply, the department said. Statements by senior administration officials claiming success were based "on the facts as we had them at the time. The facts that we had were wrong," department spokesman Richard Boucher said.
The April report said attacks had declined last year to 190, down from 198 in 2002 and 346 in 2001. The 2003 figure would have been the lowest level in 34 years and a 45 percent drop since 2001, Bush's first year as president. The department is now working to determine the correct figures.
Rep. Henry A. Waxman, who had challenged the findings, said he was pleased that officials "have now recognized that they have a report that has been inaccurate, and based on the inaccurate information they tried to take self-serving political credit for the results that were wrong."
Among the mistakes, Boucher said, was that only part of 2003 was taken into account.
Secretary of State Colin Powell said Thursday the errors were partly the result of new data collection procedures. "I can assure you it had nothing to do with putting out anything but the most honest, accurate information we can," he said.
"Errors crept in that frankly we did not catch here," Powell said. The report showed both a drop in the number of attacks worldwide in 2003 and the virtual disappearance of attacks in which no one died.
Waxman said this week the administration had refused to address his contention that the findings were manipulated for political purposes. Waxman asked Powell for an explanation.
On Thursday, Powell called Waxman, D-Calif., who said he accepted the secretary's explanation that the mistakes were unintentional.
"He says it wasn't politically motivated so I will accept that," Waxman said. Still, he said, "We are still left with the fact that this report is useless until it is corrected."
Boucher said the errors began to become apparent in early May. "We got phone calls from people who were going through our report and who said to themselves, as we should have said to ourselves: 'This doesn't feel right. This doesn't look right.' And who started asking us questions," he said.
One of Bush's major foreign policy claims is that his post-Sept. 11 strategy to counter terror was showing success.
Ken Mehlman, the president's campaign manager, said in April, "Ultimately the most important thing that people want to see on the war on terror is, what is your vision for dealing with it and what is your record."
"Obviously one of the most important issues in this election is the question of how do we continue to fight and win the war on terror so we keep our homeland safe," Mehlman said.
At the same time, Vice President Dick Cheney and Mehlman have questioned whether Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry was qualified to conduct a war against terrorism.
When the annual report was issued April 29, senior administration officials used it as evidence the war was being won under Bush.
J. Cofer Black, who heads the State Department's counterterrorism office, cited the existence of only 190 acts of terrorism in 2003 as "good news" and predicted the trend would continue this year.
Deputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage said at the time, "Indeed, you will find in these pages clear evidence that we are prevailing in the fight."
His office did not respond Thursday to a request for a statement in light of disclosures some of the findings in "Patterns of Global Terrorism" were inaccurate and understated.

Interesting combination:

(1010 WINS) (NEW HAVEN, Conn.) City officials on Friday shut down a two-family home they said was doubling as a brothel and makeshift market for produce and pornography.
When police arrived Friday, they found shelves packed with shriveled onions, garlic gloves, rotting mangoes and bananas. A scale hung over an empty cash register.
Movies and Latin CDs lined the walls and pornographic videos were tucked behind a curtain.
Inside three small bedrooms, tables were topped with sexual paraphernalia.
"We're trying to figure out what part everybody played. I've never seen anything like this," Police Lt. J. D. Smith told the New Haven Register.
Police had met with the residents Thursday night. But when investigators arrived at the home Friday, they said the business operators had cleared out with about 20 bags of rice and chicken parts.

Agency workers evacuated after blast
SACRAMENTO - About 50 employees of the Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency were evacuated for about an hour Friday afternoon after an explosion was heard in the parking garage.
Firefighters arrived at 630 I St. about 1:20 p.m. to find light smoke coming from a storm drain in the parking garage, said Capt. Niko King, spokesman for the Sacramento Fire Department.
They saw pieces of plastic and metal in the drain. As a precaution, they called the Sacramento Police Department's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team.
Team members determined the water pump blew up, King said.
"It is a possibility there was a concentration of methane gas that was ignited by the water pump, causing the explosion," King said.
I hope some TM'r has, knows where certain pictures can be had or knows another Freeper who may of the Clintons at the church services yesterday, especially during W's speech?
I think it extremely important to track these down, even from CSpan captures, something , for one would make a great poster in the upcoming election of side by side, with Clinton as a shameful ex-president and even more importantly of the Beast, because that picture alone says it all made as a poster/flyers next to anyone should she ever decide to run!
Also, anyone else watch the entire church services?
I am incensed at alot I saw!
Damn Kerry was schmoozing! Schmoozing with Bubba, schmoozing with K of Jordan, as if he were at a campaign rally! I wanted to throw up!
Please, Please lets find these pics of the idiots in church!
I will make flyers myself to distribute in Chicago!!! I will put them up on poles, everywhere!
Thanks tmp02

Oh Ma, anyone please fill me in, I know Ma has been gone a bit but that's last I read
I heard about this last night. Positively shamefull if true. I have not seen any images that prove the fact myself. I did take a few pictures of the funeral on the big-screen in Times Square, but did not see the part in question.
Interesting story jerseygirl. I do not know much about the situation or what happened in 2000. Do you have any more information regarding this?

Oh man, welcome to TM but with such depressing reality
Hi, folks. Just got back from a family vacation to Ohio ... I hate to say it, but it was nice to be oblivious of the threats over the past eight days. Did I miss anything big-time?
Didn't see anything unusual on our drive from Florida, other than a convoy of Army trucks and Humvees on I-95 in Georgia. I figured they were heading to the G-8 summit.
After visiting with relatives and friends, I said farewell to the wife and kids, who drove on to visit her sister in Raleigh. I flew home from Columbus - had my first encounter with being singled out by "the computer" at the airport. White, blond-haired, blue-eyed male traveling alone, one-way to Florida ... yeah, I fit the profile </sarcasm>. The security people were courteous, though.
