Rush just said that someone who saw Bush's eulogy said it's a real tear jerker, a command performance.
The networks are going to hate this.
What a shame. I would think that NPR would "cover" the speeches and music seeing it is a state funeral and NPR is a state funded radio station.
9/11 didn't hit me right away. I was in too much shock to cry.
When did it hit me? Three-four days later while driving down the road, natch. Pulled into a parking lot, had myself a good hiccupy cry, shivered a few times, and made it home. And I didn't think I was going to make it without sobbing again.
Tears will flow like the big Mississippi...and no Kleenex can wipe these tears away. They are real and a product of the best days of America in the last 50 years. If we thought the funeral of Princess Di was four stars...Ronny will top even that. And he deserves it.
It depends on what you mean by "mess up." I like W a lot, am glad to support him... but let's not kid ourselves: he's not a great speaker. I've often thought, "Dang, if I'd written that line, I'd be cringing at his delivery." Not knocking the man, he can do a thousand things I can't.
But a great speaker he's not.
At least with him, you'll be able to know he believes what he's saying.
Dan
Now work for us tomorrow. Alaska State Governor Merkowskie gave us the day off. Banks, Post Office, schools... everyone's shut down. I'm surrounded by a bunch of sneering liberals saying they'd never do that for Clinton. I said.. I agree! Think about it.
Now = No
sorry
I don't know the name of the soloist, but her voice was just angelic, so pure and clean. By the time she sang the second line ("For patriot dream"), I was a goner.
Cheney set a high wall last night, that was the best delivery I've ever heard from Dick Cheney and the content was stunning.
I'll be praying for President Bush who usually rises to momments like this with God's help.
Here's the text for Cheney's speech

Cheney was pitch perfect, although it was hard to watch him in the first few paragraphs. The way that he tilts to the side and opens one side of his mouth more than another sometimes makes him seem dishonest (when I think that he's not) and angry (which I think he is, and rightly so). It could be related to his heart condition, but I noticed that as he got into his stride, he did it much less.
41 was telling Larry King that he was very worried about choking up not being able to deliver the speech. I can imagine if that happens 43 is going to have a tough time too.
I first became active in politics when Reagan ran for his first term. I remember how bad things were back then, and how proud I was to be an American after he was elected.
Careful, the "we hate government employees 'cuz their bennies are better than ours" crowd will swoop down on you and whine that you shouldn't get a day off.
Yeah, I saw GHWB on LKL.
Choking-up makes them REAL men, IMO.
I agree, Cheney did a fabulous job. I'm so glad he's our VP and will be for the next 4 1/2 years.
As far as W., I've heard him give great speeches and I've heard him do O.K. speeches. he can do it, and will do a great job.
I had a similar experience with a sneering liberal yesterday who also said "They'd never do that for Clinton" and I agreed with him. I suspect that same scene happened alot yesterday and will tomorrow too.
We'll end up somewhere around Gulf Shores AL/Pensacola and be there for at least a year. Or permanently, depending. We'll be living aboard our catamaran.
And, because we're going to be Southerners, I'll have to learn the proper use of the word, "fixing." I have a pal who lives in Georgia who's tried to teach me, but I just don't have it down yet. And me made me eat grits.
An "insider", probably someone VERY close to Bush either heard him or is helping him practice or has reviewed the speech as an editor. This person told RUSH it is a tear jerker.
I am so glad I am not the only one tearing up at all the Reagan tributes. I was watching C-span today and doing pretty well until the young Marine came in with two arms amputated, one above the elbow and the other just above the wrist. He stood and saluted with the amputated arm and I just lost it. He was all of 20 years old. Anyone else see that?
My bet is Peggy's handiwork will be all over this speech. If so, it will be obvious and very possibly one of the most moving speeches we may ever hear.
