COLUMBUS, Ohio -- An Ohio state representative wants to see President Ronald Reagan's image added to Mount Rushmore.
Rep. Ron Young, R-Painesville, introduced a resolution Monday requesting Congress to add the former president's image to the South Dakota landmark.
Reagan died Saturday at the age of 93. He was the nation's 40th president, and is credited with putting an end to the Cold War with the Soviet Union.
"During the years of President Reagan, America laid to rest an era of division and self-doubt. Because of his leadership, the world laid to rest an era of fear and tyranny," Young said. "I conceived this idea some time ago, and had this resolution drafted and ready to introduce because I can think of no better way to honor the Great Communicator than to have his image added to Mount Rushmore."
George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln are already honored on Mount Rushmore, which represents the first 150 years of American history.
I'm for this.
Regards, Ivan
A nice suggestion, however there is not any rock left on Mount Rushmore that is capable of being carved into a new face. At least that was the reason given when it was proposed to put President Kennedy's face up there.

Let your voice be heard!
1. There's neither room nor a viable foundation to carve another face.
2. Mt. Rushmore is an enduring work of ART and should never be altered.
Don't get me wrong. I love and admire President Reagan, but tampering with a national monument is not a fitting way to honor his memory -- and I sincerely believe he would have agreed with that 100%.

Lenny
totally agree, bump.
Ever hear of this stuff called "concrete"? We can make new rock.
In that case, how about pouring the concrete face of Reagan and putting it on one of the hills near the National Cathederal, so Ronnie can keep an eye on Congress. :)
Smacks of rank opportunism on the part of this guy.
For the record, Mt Rushmore is far to unstable to add President Reagan to it. Better to put him on the ten dollar bill in my opinion.

Thats fact. I've seen a couple of programs via TLC and The History Channel related to this. Extreme measures are already being used to keep the four intact as it is.
The first couple of blasts required to add Reagan would in all probability bring the entire mountainside down.
Democrats would love that, ya know.....
How about we chip off those little postage-stamp sized carvings on Stone Mountain in Georgia and carve the whole blooming thing into a giant Reagan head instead. It would be a 100 times the size of the combined Mt Rushmore.

I don't think destroying one part of our history, to honor another part of our history is a good idea.
Reagan on the Ten Dollar Bill strikes me as very appropriate, given his huge impact on our economy. Plus, it would be satisfying to know the Begala's, Carville's, and Mikey Moores of the world would have a constant reminder in their own pockets.....(grin)
That's a horrible idea--it's on the order of Egypt slapping a pre-fab addition onto the Great Pyramid at Giza and using it as a mausoleum for Sadat.
Let's leave Rushmore alone and give Reagan his own monument on the side of the mall, like we did for FDR.
