Kirby Wilbur just announced on KVI that there would be a memorial for President Reagan this Friday, June 11, 3:00 PM at Cedar Park Church in Bothell. Let's go FReepers!

This memorial in Renton sounds great also. Medved, How cool is that? I can only go to the afternoon event though, darn.

President Ronald Reagan Funeral Viewing Event
This Friday June 11th, KTTH and New Life Church in Renton will host a viewing event of President Ronald Reagan's funeral procession. The event will be held in the Chapel of New Life Church from 8:30am-11am. The address of New Life Church: 15711 152nd Ave SE. Renton WA 98058
770 KTTH on-air talent, Dave Boze, Mike Siegel and Michael Medved will be joined by "Republican Radio" and "Toward Tradition" representatives. Plus, attendees will be encouraged to personalize and sign the 770 KTTH 45ft banner with the message of "Remembering President Ronald Reagan, Freedom's Champion..." The banner will be sent to the Reagan Library later this month. All are welcome to join us in remembering the service and great commitment of President Ronald Reagan.

Uh...from Seattle go north on 405 until you get to exit 22 - that's 160th street. Turn left (that's west), go 1/2 mile, turn right on 112th. Church is another 1/2 mile down the road, right-hand side.

Fairbanks has shamed me out of the rubber seahorse, so look for a guy in a purple tutu. Fortunately, a diamond tiara goes with anything...

Just a couple of quick pics and a report. Bothell was a zoo. They got quite a few more people than they anticipated - starting to see a pattern here, aren't we? I got there about 15 minutes early and the nice young fellow who was in charge of the parking crew said "sir, I don't know if you'll even get in the building."

Get in I did but sit down I did not. Pastor Joe Fulten of Cedar Park Church was presiding at his genial best, which was well, because about 1000 cars had just turned his football practice fields into a mudhole. Members of the 56th and 133d Army Bands were there from Fort Lewis and Tacoma, respectively. Notables were Kirby Wilbur of KVI radio, John Carlson (late of KVI and the Seattle Times and former gubernatorial candidate), Chris Vance of the Washington Republican Party, and Bruce Chapman, former Reagan administration official.

The joint was jammed.

Great stuff - Jennifer Dunn sent a videotape and everybody had touching and sometimes hilarious RR anecdotes. Some singing - all four verses of The Battle Hymn of the Republic including the unbowdlerized final verse,

...and Amazing Grace on the pipes (played by Scott St. Clair). Then Taps, and if there was a dry eye in the house it got wet when they closed with America, sung by the Late Great Ray Charles.

I was standing at the back and so watched the usher nearly have a heart attack as a sweet little blind lady turned and said "I want to hear Ray Charles." She was standing in the exact center of a doorway through which upwards of 2000 people were about to stampede. She lived...

Great time and a great turnout. I'll close with a quote from RR that graces the program: My optimism comes not just from my strong faith in God, but from my strong and enduring faith in man.

So I see you made it, too. I made it there at about 5 minutes to 3, and managed to get seating... It was a heartwarming, touching, funny, and overall great experience...

Wow! what a turn out. THANK YOU KVI.
It was standing room only and I counted three news stations outside. John Carlson gave a moving speech, as did the RNC WA state chairman.
Only downside I thought, was the Army officer who gave the opening prayer. Any of you there will know what I'm talking about. Besides his slightly odd method of praying, when he prayed for the Reagan kids, he skipped Micheal's name.
And Kirby, bless his heart, when speaking, rushed through the part about his visit to The Reagan Library. Hardly noticed in his speech. I would of liked to here more on that visit first hand. And one of the jokes he told I felt should of not been told in the church. The urinal joke.
Why jokes at all? Kirby is normally a gifted speaker.

Other than that, it was a great local tribute, and I am glad I went. I did get home to see the service at the Reagan Library on TV. That moved me to tears. Having lost my Dad in March, I really feel what the Reagan family is going through right now. God Bless them.

Am I dreaming? Just watched KING 5, and they didn't even MENTION the Bothell memorial. They made reference to a few small gatherings and gestures around town and at Ft. Lewis, and completely ignored this huge crowd of people celebrating Reagan's life.

Someone please tell me I just missed it. I can't believe this.

Yes, well, you have to admit that his transition from a prayer to a sermon was flawless - there wasn't one. A 15-minute prayer will put a crick in anyone's neck. But what saved the occasion was the Pastor's comment on closing: "thank you for a very substantial prayer, Colonel." Broke the whole place up.

Kirby had the problem radio people always do when speaking in public - they dread dead air, and they try to fill what time they have completely. He spoke too fast. But he was very funny and very moving.

The sound system did leave a bit to be desired, IMHO. At times Reagan's video was barely understandable, and so was Jennifer Dunn's. But these are tiny flaws in a giant tapestry. It was a magnificent expression of sentiment and I thank everyone who was there.

I was listening to much of the program which KVI kindly broadcast. Kirby's speech was wonderful, and I loved those bagpipes. WOW!

I spent the morning watching the national service in DC, then went out to do all the errands/shopping for the Lakewood Vigil I was helping with. We had speakers, candles, music, and at the end overyone got flowers to lay on the memorial Ronald Reagan brick. It had been purchased by the South Sound Ronald Reagan Club and layed in the Veteran's Memorial circle by the city hall. The Vietnamese contingent was there as well - they are very patriotic and have become good friends.
