Hollywood sources tell LA Weekly columnist Nikki Finke that former President Ronald Reagan's medical condition has suddenly worsened. "He really took a downslide today," the insider told Finke Friday evening. "Doctors are at the house. Things aren't good." At the start of the day, several news organizations chased down a rumor that the ex-president had died, but it wasn't true... Family members gathered at the Reagan's Bel Air home late Friday... Developing...

John Anderson. He ran as an Independent and actually finagled his way into the Presidential debates.

Well spoken guy. Very articulate, but would probably have been a disaster as Presdient.

If not that, put him on the $10.

I'd rather see him on a new dollar coin, the 1 dollar bill or the $20.

And I remember that John Anderson "shocked" his former party again by endorsing the media favorite Walter F. Mondale for President in 1984!

So if Caesar had his Brutus and Charles I his Cromwell, Reagan had his Anderson.

It seems there's a lot of us forty-somethings on this thread. President Reagan had a tremendous impact on our generation, and for that I am eternally grateful.

I'm also grateful that my parents are dyed-in-the-wool Republicans. My earliest political memory is at the age of 4. I remember meeting Barry Goldwater as he stumped South Dakota in the presidential race. I was sitting on the tailgate of my parents' 'woody' station wagon that was parked in a cornfield.

What party did John Anderson use to belong to? Was he a rino?

Many members of my family went for Anderson. They couldn't bring themselves to vote for the man who had hosted Death Valley Days. In time, they too came to repect Ronald Reagan.

LOL ... My mom still has her little gold elephant with barry goldwater glasses on it.

I really think that President Bush is having the same effect on a majority of our children that Reagan had on us.

I have 3 sons, one who voted for Bush in 2000, another who will vote for Bush in his first election this year, and a 16 year old who is more conservative than all the rest of us. :-)

That's odd. I was just thinking of this day before yesterday. His presence will be missed, but he has been trapped for so long inside himself with that terrible disease. While our loss will be painful, we will have wonderful memories of a great president and we can rejouce that he is finally free from the bondage of illness and is home rejoicing with the Lord. We can also be thankful that we have a president who will honor him as he deserves instead of one who spit on him in life and who would spit on him in death.

We love you Mr President. Go in peace.

Barry Goldwater glasses! LOL

Sounds like you are raising your sons the right way.

My son has 11 years to go until he can cast his first vote. Needless to say, he is a conservative in training!

#559..This is true.
Deterioration can be rapid....when the time comes.

Patients need more nourishment because their bodies deplete it guickly, and at the end, they can't even recognize themselves in the mirror.

Right now, mom will tell you she washes her hair 3 times a week....(because that's what she use to do)...

..but she won't remember to wash it at all, unless we get it done.

From what I can determine, she's in the 2nd level of the disease.....and we have her on the new medication, but she still doesn't know what day it is......whether she just had breakfast, or lunch....where she is....or anything I might have told her in the past 2 minutes.

All one can do now is be patient, and love her and hug her.

The problem that a lot of people had with Reagan, and what I was trying to say in my post, was that he did have simple answers to the problems of the day. His critics felt that complicated problems needed complicated answers. Reagan believed that complicated problems could only be solved with simple answers. The complicated solutions required armies of bureaucrats and mountains of regulations that only created more problems. His basic solution was get government out of the way and free the talents and hard work of the American people to solve the problems. I still think that this is a good model to work with.

"Can you believe some of them are actually SCHOOL TEACHERS?!"

Frightening, isn't it? Do we need furthur evidence that our kids shouldn't be in public schools?

He is a giant.

His passing will rekindle the nation's thoughts toward how great he was and what he accomplished.

His influence will be felt as long as the republic stands.
