Hollywood sources tell LA Weekly columnist Nikki Finke that former President Ronald Reagan's medical condition has suddenly worsened. "He really took a downslide today," the insider told Finke Friday evening. "Doctors are at the house. Things aren't good." At the start of the day, several news organizations chased down a rumor that the ex-president had died, but it wasn't true... Family members gathered at the Reagan's Bel Air home late Friday... Sadly, I suspect he is already passed. With so many friends deserving to hear it first hand, the family is probably doing the honourable thing and quietly acknowledging it privately before the media whores latch on to it.

I am Canadian but am greatful for what he did for me, my country and the world. I am also a Christian and while I feel the impending sense of loss, I also know he leaves the world a better place for having been here and now its his turn to move on to a better place.

Reagan's Health Said to Have Deteriorated

PARIS (AP) -- Former President Ronald Reagan's health has deteriorated, the White House has been told.

The White House was informed that the 93-year-old former president's health had changed significantly in the past several days, a person familiar with Reagan's condition said Saturday.

Reagan has been out of the public eye since disclosing a decade ago that he had Alzheimer's disease. He has lived longer than any other U.S. president.

Rumors about Reagan's health arose Friday and his office in California said it had received more than 100 calls. A spokeswoman for the former president said Reagan's condition will not improve, but that it has not deteriorated.

White House officials also checked on Reagan's health Friday. The White House was told his health has deteriorated and "the time is getting close," according to the person familiar with Reagan's health, who did not want to be identified out of sensitivity to the family.

Reagan's condition has changed significantly for the worse in the past several days, this person said.

News about Reagan's health came as President Bush arrived in the French capital, the second stop on his trip to Europe.

I wish I had the opprotunity to vote for Reagan. I turned 18 when I voted for Bush 1. GW is a good President, but he is no Reagan. I'm sure when Reagan dies, there will be a lot of people in mourning. Probaly not since George Washington died.

President Reagan was the first presidential candidate I was old enough to vote for. It remains a souce of pride for me, especially in light of this sad news.

Same here .. My first Presidential election was 1980, and I cast my vote President Reagan. I cannot say however that I have never voted for a Democrat though, as I twice cast votes for Sam Nunn as Senator from Georgia.

GOD bless you Mr. President!

The greatest President in my time. When the time comes, may it be a peaceful journey to our Lord in Heaven.

#535..I'm with you.

My mom has been going through this for 5 long years.

Bless her heart, she can't even remember what she had for breakfast this morning.

At some level, especially at first, they know their memory is going, and it is very frightening.

We have mom in a 'home' now....and she is quite content and even happy.

The Alzheimers Center in our town has been a great comfort.

Well at least it is going to be George W to speaking at his funeral. What kind of funeral is Reagan going to have?

Ronaldus Maximus was also my first Presidential vote. I forgot to file a absentee ballott, so I skipped school, called a friend and headed for home.

I'm proud to say that I drove 400 miles to vote for Ronald Reagan.

Oh, and I also married the friend. Good trip all around.

When Reagan was running against Carter, I didn't care much for him. We had real problems and this actor was going to be the cure-all? No thanks. Inflation was running at 16% to 18% annually. We had embassy hostages being held by the Iranians. The Nation had allot of problems. But Reagan got himself election.

Three minutes after President Reagan was sworn in, Iranians released the hostages. From that moment and for for the next 8 years, President Reagan restored the United States of America to a proud Nation. He restored feeling of pride in the Nation that, for so many years, was viewed worldwide as the Ugly Americans. President Reagan stood for America and stood against the challenges, such as Communism.

We are a better Nation, a more proud people, because of President Reagan.

God Bless Nancy Reagan, who has faithfully cared for him through these many, many years.

And God bless Ronald, too, and the rest of their family. Soon he will be in heaven, mind and body whole again.

Two things stand in my mind from 1980. It was Ronald Reagan and the US Olympic hockey team that gave me pride in my country again.

Actually I would expect Reagan's funeral to be much like Nixon's. he will probably lie in State at the Capitol for the appropriate time, but then his body willbe returned to California for burial either at the Reagan Library or on his beloved ranch.

When Reagan goes the country will see a real funeral, not a rally. Bush 1 and 2 would probably speak, hell maybe Gorbachev would even be there. It will remind America what it needs to focus on and what the opposition party is. Do however expect Katie Couric her ilk to mention Iran Contra and the homeless while "remembering" his legacy.

The thing about Reagan was this, he was a visionary, he knew America was the best nation. He stood up to the Soviets, he proposed a vigirous space program, and brought us tax cuts. Things where good under Reagan. Heck he even had respect from the Rats.

I spent some time working on an Alzheimer's ward in my younger days. I am not sure if this has been posted, However, Many of the patient's had major strokes shortly before passing, It is part of the disease being physical as well as mental. This could explain the " sudden change" in in his health, IMHO
