Hollywood sources tell LA Weekly columnist Nikki Finke that former President Ronald Reagan's medical condition has suddenly worsened. "He really took a downslide today," the insider told Finke Friday evening. "Doctors are at the house. Things aren't good." At the start of the day, several news organizations chased down a rumor that the ex-president had died, but it wasn't true... Family members gathered at the Reagan's Bel Air home late Friday... Developing...

Very nice. Thanks for posting those comments. I really like that photo of the CVN-76 USS Ronald Reagan.

The media "misunderestimated" Reagan...

Thanks for the link, Mo. I believe Pres. Bush will give an inspiring speech at Normandy this weekend, but I think on Sunday I'll circulate Pres. Reagan's comments of 20 years ago to folks on a few discussion boards.

And an aircraft carrier. And a federal building.
I have to say, up till now I was ignorant of both. Where are they both, out of interest?

There are some wonderful pictures and stirring tributes to President Reagan on this thread from 2001:
A Shining City on a Hill: A Tribute to Ronald Reagan
Heavenly Father, we lift up to You a great yet humble man, Ronald Wilson Reagan. We thank You that our nation was blessed with such a leader and we celebrate his life. When it is time for him to leave this world, let his passing be gentle and let the angels be his escorts to his Eternal Home. We thank You for his devoted wife Nancy who has watched over him so tenderly and we ask that You continue to grant her courage and strength for the difficult days she faces. Let his family know peace and let our country take a respite from the vitriol we too often hear and pay sincere and heartfelt tribute to a great American and a truly good and decent man. In the name of Jesus. Amen.

I went over to DU via another poster's link.
To read that villainy, you'd think civilization itself had crumbled.
It's another reality, over there.

What a man. What a great man.
"Mr. Gorbachev....Tear down this wall!"
I'll never forget that and so many of the other wonderful memories from the Reagan Era.
It really was morning in America.

"After he was shot he was told to stay in his bed and rest. One day he couldn't sleep and started padding around in his pajamas and robe. There were some workmen having their sandwiches at lunchtime on the floor . They looked up and saw this apparition - Reagan in his robe blithely proceeding toward them. They lowered their sandwiches and stared. Reagan padded by and without missing a beat said" Gee, fellas, I didn't know there were any good restaurants this far out."

I'm a fan of classic tv ... apparently, Andy Griffith was from those environs.
Pilot Mountain became "Mount Pilot" on the Andy Griffith show :)

Isn't it amazing how many of the criticisms the media lodged against Reagan are the same they throw at W?
Dumb.
Lets his staff and cabinet make all the decisions.
Overly simplistic worldview.
Greedy because he cut taxes.
Unilateralist.
Militarist.
Bully.
ad nauseum.
I guess W must be doing something right! He's got all the right enemies.

This country loves Ronnie. The outporing of sympathy will be tremendous when he passes.
Not just the USA, mate. Ronald Reagan was the first US president I'm really old enough to remember (I was 7 when he came to office) and I shed a tear when I heard he had Alzheimer's. I think I'll go somewhere quiet and sob loudly and long when he passes. Tears in my eyes as I write this.

Images that are inconvenient are usually too wide for one monitor screen. These are perfect.
Anyone have a status on the ship? Last I saw, it was heading for it's new home port in San Diego and will be there in July. Is it fully operational as any other carrier?

In this case its people wanting to honor the man and in appreciation for his deeds. (unlike another nameless senator who name every immobile pork barrel project in his state after himself.)

I'm going to say the same prayer I said for my dad when he was so very ill.
Please God, just take care of him.
